Alright i have an american ps3 and all i want to know is if i can play some simple japanese ps3 games with out and malfunctioning (i have a regualr tv not HD)
Both Japan and the US use the NTSC system, so I don't see why you wouldn't be able to play Japanese games on US systems. I suppose it depends on what type of game you're playing, as well. BD games tend to not have any region coding, but I've heard there are still issues with NTSC/PAL TVs getting screwy if the signal is different from what they usually get. PSN games should run fine, too, but don't take my word for it. I've only ever downloaded a game from a different region when I got the Killzone 2 demo off of the UK PSN, and it worked fine for me.
The only difference between american NTSC and Japanese NTSC is the black level, and this can easily be adjusted out by using the brightness control on the screen...or even the brightness level in the game itself.
I have downloaded several PSN games from the Japanese and Tiawan PSN...and they all work fine with my NA PS3...can't speak for disc-based games, but I hear they work just fine.
Arent Ps3 games region free. I myself have not tested it but everyone says they are. So you can play any PS3 game from any region on any console. It's just the Blu-ray movies that are region locked.
Yeah your going to have absolutely no problems. I have a PALps3 and have imported games from all regions. Ryu ga gotoku from Japan, Demon Souls from US etc. They all work absolutely fine no problems.
