can a usb 1gb be used instead of an sd card

Hi i just wanted 2 know if I can use a 1gb usb 2 install the homebrew channel instead of an sd card.

To install homebrew channel, no. You NEED an SD to install it.

Once it is installed then you can use the USB flash drive to run all the apps. Just set it up exactly how you would set up the SD and the HBC will automatically read from the USB device if it doesn't sense an SD inserted.

okay thanks im looking at getting an 8gb SD card or something to install hbc another thing is, is there a way of copying games straight from the disk to the wii(for backup reasons). If there is could you let me know.

so the same thing can be done from a USB HDD then?

if i copy all the files on the sd card and put them on the hdd then everything will work the same is that right?

Sure you can copy games from the disk to usb drive. If you have the configurable USB loader (and a hard drive formatted WBFS or FAT32) then you can just insert a game disk and press the + button on the wiimote to copy the game to the hard drive.

Yes, but only if the drive is formatted FAT or FAT32. The homebrew channel cannot read from a WBFS drive and cannot write to a NTFS one.

I mean the drive's filesystem. The CFG USB loader can read from WBFS, FAT32 and NTFS formatted partitions on a hard drive, but it can't write to NTFS. This is important to note because most external hard drives you buy nowadays come pre-formatted to NTFS.

Follow larry's usb loader guide if you need more help. It should answer most of your questions.

i have the external hdd partiioned one is fat32 for games and the other is ntfs for divx stuff.

so if i take everything that is on the SD card and put it in the root of the fat32 partition it will all work the same?
