Hi guys, i have recently started burning xbox 360 games using my laptop (HP dv1299ea), the burner is HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT20L and verbatim dvd+r dl discs
I am burning downloaded games, but only half the games i download actually burn to disc and work, i dont think its the files themselves which is the problem rather something else. Im hesitant to try the same files multiple times as the dics are pretty expensive! the games that dont burn properly get an error message right at the start of burning (before 1%) but still seems to render the disc useless
log file from last unsuccessful burn:

Did you run the file through ABGX? That will make sure the file is good.

You may have a faulty burner, do you have another one you could try? I doubt its a bad batch of disks as that rarely happens with Verb's

i suspect thats its the burner being crap as i've heard stock laptop burners are rarely any good. Im thinking about buying an external dvd burner and have come a across the lite on LH-20A1PX
http://www.liteonit.com/global/index.php...d=191&Itemid=85
Are lite on dvd burners decent and capable of burning xbox360 gaems right every time? Is the dvd burner i've linked to a decent choice?

Yeah you're right, the burners on most laptops aren't very good at all when it comes to burning games.

Hi,
To OP - I think your burner may be faulty.
I have a HP dv9646em laptop and i have been burning verbs at 2.4x and 4x now for about a year with no problems. It's a great alternative to my desktop Pioneer burner for when i'm on the move.
Maybe try making sure the firmware is the latest for your burner ? and also giving the lens on the drive a good clean. These are my suggestions. Also try burning some different stuff with different makes of disks (nor verbs) just to test out that the burner isn't just failing with 360 games. This should then confirm wether the drive is broke or not
Hope this helps

Google just tells me that you have a generic "DVD±RW (±R DL) / ram.cfm" class="forum_link" target="_blank">DVD-RAM " and there doesnt seem to be a firmware update on the HP site, so your SOL there.

I usually don't trust the disk cleaner things. I usually just get a cotton bud and some methylated spirits. That way i'm certain i've given it a good solid clean.
Does the drive fail when trying to burn other things to disk rather than just trying a 360 game.
Also I know it can get expensive watching verbs fail time after time so try cheaper media.
The drive if working properly should for example write your two mp3 files to your cheap crappy disk fine with no problems which would make you happy that your disk drive is working (or not if it fails !!)
Small story :- I have the pioneer 112 d which has been faithful to my burning needs for 2 1/2 years. Originally it was in an external caddy and i would use it attached to my laptob via usb. One day i tried to update the firmware and it didn't update properly. I thought it was FUBAR and so stopped using it for about a month. I then decided to take it out of the external enclosure and put it directly into my desktop. I re updated the firmware and it worked fine again.
When it was in the stage of not working it would fail similar to your problem. This is why i thought it could be something with the firmware on your drive or driver issue or ultimately a broken drive.
What's the history of your laptop/drive ? New ? recently updated anything ?
I would defo try a few things burning wise first after you've given the lens a good clean
