PlayStation is 'poison,' says dictator

article published on 18 January, 2010

According to Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez, the Sony PlayStation line of consoles is "poison" and is leading children down the "capitalist road to hell." The PS wasn't the only product feeling the heat from the President however, as he called on Venezuelan manufacturers to create "educational" toys with the features of those indigenous to the nation and not capitalistic dolls such as ... [ read the full article ]

There's Hillary Clinton and Joe Lieberman that regularly rails against video games, I guess that makes the US a dictatorship right?
haha this is too funny, I cant believe your infering that chavez is better then the U.S.

And if I've not been clear enough, ... yes, I'm saying that SOCIALISM is BAD... and CAPITOLISM is GOOD.

Our country, on its very worst day is a hundred thousand times better than ANY socialistic country on its best day.
i agree 100%

I know Sony is using it as propaganda to hell the tobacco industry. Sony wants to make money, and gaming is a form of past time. I think these nut cases have so much time on their hands that they need to come up with silly fairy tales or conspiracies. No ones making me buy anything..some people like RPG games, does that mean they are teaching people to summon the god of sun to send a bolt of hot blazing sun to kill people?

before you start complaining about playstation games has any one heard of the army????they take recuites and teach them to use weapons and kill people so if its in real life why cant it be on a playstation game.
Ive actually never noticed anyone smoking or taking drugs in a playstation game where are these so called games that promote drug taking and smoking????BTW its not easy to smoke a cigarette while using a playstation control.its even harder to roll a joint while playing a PS game.
I dont know if Hugo Chavez is a dictator or not but there must be a good reason people are calling him one.

He's a Dictator. Plain and simple. I can't believe some people are dumb enough on here to defend that a$$hole. He's the same guy who changed his own country's constituion so he could be President a 3rd term. Imagine if any U.S. President ever tried to pull that b.s.

Plus he hates America. But it seem like a few people on this board due as well.

It always amazes me that conservative Americans remain so defensive about any type of criticism. Making a critical comment about "The Right Wing", leads inevitably to accusations of People/the Media/the World "hating America"...

The Constitution of Venezuela concerning presidential terms was not "changed by Chavez" but voted into law in a National Referendum by the citizens of Venezuela in (I think) December 2007. It was part of a whole list of constitutional changes.

I believe Chavez is a very questionable personality and a loose cannon who makes often unwise or ridiculous statements. He would be much better off keeping his mouth shut most of the time. He is very
critical of the American Government and multi-national business interests. Some of his criticism is appropriate, some of it is weird, laughable and not at all helpful to his own cause.

Correct.
This was the 2nd of the 2 referendums I mentioned.

He is no fan of the USA - and if you know anything about how the USA backed the previous small elite (and to a lesser degree a small middle class) who then enjoyed the oil wealth in Venezuela - it's no surprise.
You'd also know how the majority of the population got next to nothing & were harshly treated by those undemocratic thugs.

You might begin to have a clue as to why 'the people' tend to love Chavez and why they keep voting for him.

It would also become quickly obvious how come 'the people' couldn't give a damn about him closing out the members of that previous establishment and their media pals.
Especially as they have gone so far as to attempt an actual coup, organised oil strikes to shut down the country and regularly try to spread misinformation & propaganda to destabilise the democratically elected Gov of Venezuela.

Those anti-democratic efforts were in fact, every time, beaten off by the actions of 'the people' who came out on to the streets in their hundreds of thousands to defend their democratically elected Gov.

Still, it is illuminating.
No matter how much the facts get posted the 'Fox friend' element prefer to believe the lies.

However hard it is to accept the truth is that Chavez is a democratically elected leader, he did win free and fair (and outside observed & verified) elections.

Elections which laugh in the face of those held in the USA in 2000 & 2004.

Obviously some are only concerned with 'democracy' when it produces a result they approve of.

Venezuela has oil and Chavez is for 'the people' not obvious narrow US interests.

Chavez is probably being sensible to be so publicly antagonistic & denounce the US......it's not like the USA doesn't have a history of trumping up allegations and arbitrarily invading foreign countries (with huge natural resources) to force 'regime change' in countries which then act in the interests of the USA, is it?

He's not the only one either, Bolivia and Brazil are also sympathetic to the 'Chavez line'.

South America has by and large had a belly-full of the USA's 'Monroe Doctrine'
(which long ago stopped having anything to do with Europe and became all about being the USA's property/back yard)
and are simply telling the USA where to get off.
It was always bound to happen some time.
Part of the US right-wing's response top that is to pretend anyone not 'with them' must be a commie out to threaten the region & drop WMDs all around them.
They're pretty obvious.

Hopefully Obama & Co. will be much more reasonable and defuse the tensions sensibly.

Capitalism is not good and Socialism is not bad...nor is Socialism good and Capitalism bad. The are financial systems. Each has its own merits and problems. At extremes, both systems are bad. There are certain things each system does better than the other. Capitalism is great for advancing society, but only if there's a buck in it. Socialism is good for managing your society if there's not a buck in it. Personally, I *LIKE* my socialist roads and highways here in America that we all paid for...I would prefer *NOT* to pay tolls on every road I drive if they were owned by "for profit" companies.

Additionally, if you don't know the history of US involvement in regime change in South America, you will never understand why Chavez is so popular. Learn your history.

All that being said...he says some really stupid shit. Same crap a bunch of people here in the US say.
