So I bought a samsung super writemaster model: SH-S223. Now I keep reading that you can't burn with Kreon drives and should burn with a 360 drive due to kreons not being able to burn ss v2... But does that mean that ONLY 360 drives burn with ss v2 or is my drive able to burn ssv2? And what exactly is "kreon" and how do you determine if you have a "kreon" drive?

Thank you for any help.

yes you cannot burn with the kreon drive,,its just a dvd rom reader,,you cannot burn with a xbox 360 drive ,,it to is a dvd rom reader,,you need a dvd writer that burns dual layer +R DL media,,yes the kreon firmware has not been updated for awhile so do not use it to rip your games,,use a xbox drive flashed with 0800 firmware to rip your games,,the ss v2 file will be picked up by the xbox drive,,not the kreon,,
P.S. google kreon drive,,

When I google that I pretty much get drives for sale or people asking if they can use a kreon drive to burn games and such.

What I'm trying to figure out is what exactly is a kreon drive?

A kreon drive is a certain samsung dvd-rom model that is flashed with "kreon" firmware. It is NOT a xbox 360 drive. I'm sure that the burner you bought will work just fine to burn games, but it is advised to use a 360 drive flashed with 0800 firmware to rip(backup) the games instead of using a drive flashed with kreon. 0800 = SSV2. Kreon = SSV1. I hope this helps clear things up. Kreon is now frowned upon. It can't rip games properly (SSV1). 0800 is the trusted method as of lately.

Ahh so Kreon is a FW.

So since my drive didn't come out of an xbox 360, could I still flash it with the 0800 firmware to be able to burn with ssv2?

Yes, Kreon is firmware. No, you can't flash any drive with 0800 unless it is a 360 drive. You don't need to flash your burner with any type of firmware for it to be able to burn ssv2 360 backups. You need to have a 360 drive flashed with 0800 firmware to read(rip) the additional angles (ssv2).

Let me save you from any more questions by just stating that Kreon drives (drives capable of being flashed by kreon firmware) are no longer safe for us to use...though some people still use them to only get SSv1. It has been said that they are incapable of capturing SSv2 angles.

C4Eva has stated that you will be flagged for banning if you don't use the latest Lite Touch firmware (only available for lite-on drives right now) with games properly checked through ABGX and containing SSv2, as Microsoft may check fo r it in the future.

Be safe, or be sorry.

Here is some more to think about. I ripped an older game (Ghost Recon AW) with a Kreon drive and it came back as an SSV1. I then used a BenQ drive (800 Firmware) and it came back as an SSV2.

I ran both through ABGX on level 3. The odd thing is that ABGX changed both of the ISO's to an SSV1. I had to re rip using the Ben Q.

I think that if you are ripping originals, right now you shouldn't use ABGX and if you do don't use Level 3.

Anyone not agree with that?

So is it ok to burn games that were SSv1 as SSv2 if all 0800 drives burn as ssv2?

The 800 drives are just readers. They are actual XBOX 360 Drives that use an 800 version firmware so they can be seen in Windows.

Nobody really knows if the SSV1 is bad. C4E is just telling everyone that it is a better practice to rip your games with a drive that has 800 firmware flashed in it. It is more of a pure rip.

i think thats why i did not get banned,,maybe im wrong,,i never used abgx for my games,,did a straight rip and straight burn,,also stopped using the keron drive last september,,been using a sammy for my rips,,alot easier for me,,just my 2 cents,,
