I've looked through so many threads on how to flash The Box but can't get it to work still.

I'm using v4.03_051005 along with bin file CryptStar-v1.5-Core400.

The Box is a genuine box (I'm assuming Starview 2?).

Have tried messing with the port settings, both on Vista and now XP.

Originally was only using an RS232 cable but now going through that AND a Null Modem cable and still can't get it to work...

Just get the 0% for several seconds then Flash Update Fail.

Does anyone have any other methods? Have tried switching off and on, etc.

Much appreciated.

think yer using the wrong firmware for the BOX, the starview 2 is THE BOX, you trying load Starview 1 firmware to it.

The Box 4.57 & Loader.rar was the last one for that,

can be found in my signiture below

Hi cheers for reply...
I've been going off these threads ( http://www.freewebs.com/starview-update and http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/728777 )

Tried the firmware you suggested with the same problem.

Serious head scratching here.

you have tried loading the file to the loader, connect the box, make sure its off, press download and then after 4 seconds flick the switch on the box at the back?

It sounds like a port or driver issue if the above dont work

Just tried that a few times and it still stayed on 0% and eventually failed.

So you think it's a port or driver issue? I've tried updating driver but there aren't any updates. Port seems to be ok, tried Ports 3 and 4. I've tried the default Port settings (9600 bps) and also tried matching the bps to 115200.

:(

Port settings look to be ok, I'm sure I tried it correctly on a different PC (laptop with vista) with the same problem.

Could there be anything wrong with the box? Previously installed settings, etc?

As I'm not quite sure of the origins of the box that I have acquired... I just know that it wouldn't work with the TV when I checked before attempting to flash it.

Eventually got it flashed and Download complete.... scrapped the use of the RS232 cable and just used the Null Model serial cable in the serial port of the PC.

Thanks for the help. No doubt will have problems getting channels up now, so watch this space, hehe.

cheers again

vista is not really suitable for flashing so best to use windows xp.are you using a desktop or a laptop(strange as it may sound i tried to flash a few boxes for a mate last year on a laptop ,using xp and a null modem and a seriel to null modem adaptor and correct driver which should have worked fine as it did on my old dell laptop, and the flash failed every time)when i used an old desktop it worked first time(they have an rs232 socket which is very usefull)i dont know what the issue was, my only thinking is maybe because the laptop was wireless and getting regular software updates an updated bit of software may have somehow been incompatable with the seriel driver, the desktop has had no updates for a few years and worked just fine.are you using the correct loader, as mickah said you have the incorrect firmware so may have the incorrect loader(gtrom.4.0.exe i think is correct for the box)this can be found by clicking on the link in my signature and also the most recent firmware.

Thanks, I managed to get it flashed eventually.

Struggling now with scanning for channels.

Turned Nagravision on, entered the latest Keys correctly. Tried the different providers (but NTL is the one that is at the top of the Nagra menu) so I keep trying NTL.

Keep ketting scan failed, no channels are being detected by auto/manual scan.

Followed a couple of guides on here but still can't get the channels working.

Anyone know where i could be going wrong?

Many thanks in advance.

have ya got the cable in the correct input at the back? Cable input is where it goes, you may need to scan on EX C/W

Yeah, the cable won't fit in the other socket anyway.

What's EX C/W?

Regards.

ex c/w is another one you can scan on, factory reset and choose EX C/w as your provider this time, not ntl and then autoscan, ya do know ya can change who you want to scan on

Check the other providers. Nthell tw and ex/cw are the main 3 saying that though you need to try all of them. A friend in hertfordshire and he picks up on the chorus provider. Carry out a factory reset and set defult key. By changing the keys unless you put them in exactly right u wont pick up anything anyhow. Once u find the correct provider the keys will update automatically. What area are you in btw ?
