Is there a way to upgrade the hard drive other than Microsoft's rip 120gb hd if you have a chipped Xbox? Also if so, can you ftp games to the hard drive and play them from the hd?

Yes you can make a custom HD. I believe it needs to be a Western Digital drive, I'm not entirely sure which drive it has to be. I believe xbox scene has a tut on it.

You won't be able to play games from the drive without the disk being in the drive (unless you jtag).
