Ok I'm having issues with my bluray drive which should be different than the typical "PS3 wont eject" problem. Quick background: I have the 80gb ceche01 model PS3. I was getting the invalid disc errors on PS3 and bluray discs (though DVD's, PS1,CDs were playing just fine) and so ordered and replaced the laser in the bluray drive (I just
replaced the laser itself but took out the whole laser and track to do the replacing, if that makes a difference). When putting it back together, I forgot to put the circular magnetic piece back that goes on top of the bluray drive before putting the metal case on around it (if you look at this youtube video it is the first piece he
takes off. Circular white piece in the middle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1RoxeU4Axo)
I started the PS3 up and stuck a disc in and the gears pulled the CD in but once the CD was in it made a much louder gear turning noise than it normally does for a few seconds. Then the disk would not eject, even with the manual eject of holding down the eject button. I had to take it back apart to get the disc out at which time I later noticed I forgot to put the white circular piece back. When I took it apart to get the disc I noticed that the disc was not centered over the spindle (was not centered with the hole on the top that the white circular piece goes in). So I put it all back together correctly, remembering to put in the white circular piece, and the drive did
the same thing when I stuck a disc in. Upon taking it apart (again!) the cd was again not centered over the spindle. It appears that all the gears and rollers are functioning fine (the rollers that pull the CD in arent stuck or anything, they apparently just dont push the CD back far enough as it is probably about 1/2 inch too far towards the front of the bluray drive. Ive been searching the internet and havent
been able to figure it out. I do not know if my forgetting to put the white circular piece on caused it to do this. So to recap the problems are:
CD DOES get pulled in but makes louder gear noises once the CD is in
CD will not eject even by holding down eject for a long time
CD is approx: 1/2 inch too far towards the front of the drive and is thus not centered over the spindle where it should be
Can anyone refer me to a guide to help with this or know the answer yourself? Thank you much
Man after searching for hours this is the first person I've seen with the same issue. I've glossed over a few threads that have said sometimes the disc won't pull in all the way because of how it's "aligned"...
That being said, no really useful videos, but yeah mine does the same thing, the disc pulls in about 90% of the way, makes a loud clicking sound, and doesn't line up with the spindle.
I had this problem before after the ps3 wasn't reading discs I took it apart and cleaned the laser. The problem is almost definatly the White magnet thingy that goes on top of the drive. I turned my Blu-ray drive over and it dropped on the floor, I placed it back on how I thought was right but, like you, upon inserting a disc or trying to eject it'd make loud clicking noises. All I can suggest is to play around with the positioning of the white magnet. I did this and it eventually worked for me. I left the PS3 open and held the Blu-ray drive cover firmly in place with my hand and tried inserting discs a few times. If it clicked, I let go, removed the top and tried moving the spindle. This probably isn't the safest way however so try at your own risk. From what I can tell, the spindle doesn't "slot" or "click" into place anywhere, it just sit's loosley on top. Try looking online for a couple of PS3 disassembly guides and see if they mention anything special about the placement of the magnet.
It was the white circular magnet piece! I had to play around with it and how it was setting on the two arms that spread apart to let it drop. I opened the arms a little and let it drop and moved it around until it would stay dropped. Then I plugged it all back in and it worked just fine. Thanks for the help everyone!
Not a problem, glad you got it working :D The little white thingy seems to not securely fit anywhere and just kinda sits there a bit, which is what confused me. I thought I'd completley knackered the drive when I heard it clicking loudly hahahha :D
