i've asked this a few times and am not clear on the answer. I have a liteon with 1.51 and don't want to play on live, all i want is to never have to update my box again, so it is waveless. Should i get LT or should i find the 1.6 and just go that route?

I would go with LT just because its newer and some day you may want to sell your xbox, just because you aren't interested in live doesn't mean no one else is...

Gotta go with the LT firmware. Lite-On drives don't have any other firmware that is non-stealth, AFAIK.

$38 on new discs -- Check
$15 on burn after burn that showed as a DVD -- Check
$11 on new laser -- Check
$28 on new multimeter -- Check

There is a non stealth 1.6 version for liteon drives, it was discussed in a thread a while back.

Thanks for the link. I've been out of the loop for a while. I'd still go with the LT, though, for the same reasons mentioned by Cletoz.

has it been confirmed that a drive flashed with LT cant be dumped? if so then i would say that would be my only reason to go 1.6 instead of LT if not using live.

If you send me questions on Live about modding or anything related i will block you. Dont be an idiot.

Games will still work on LT after i rip them with my Kreon correct. I know how to do certain things, but this .800 and other is confusing me.

I haven't seen that stated anywhere, but I have been out of the loop for a while so it could be the case. That would certainly be a good reason to use non-stealth 1.6 instead unless you are absolutely certain that you can safely store your DVD key for all of eternity. 360 DVD drives go bad quite often, and you will regret it if you cannot pull the key from the drive and lost your firmware backup file.

Yes, games will work on LT after being ripped with a Kreon drive. However, you are going to want to stop using the Kreon to rip games if you ever want to use them on a non-banned 360.

Kreon and iXtreme 0800 are two different types of firmware for DVD drives to rip games with.

The problem with Kreon is that, for reasons that I've only seen speculated about, it will not rip certain data from 360 games. More specifically, it won't rip the complete SS data of the game, while 0800 firmware will. For this reason, you are going to want to use 0800 firmware instead of Kreon to rip games. Hopefully you have a DVD drive that supports 0800 firmware and it will be a simple/free process.

i basically treat mine as a banned box since i don't play onlive, just as long as i can still rip using my kreon and play, i was just worried they would not play at all.

It is possible that in the future ABGX will be updated in order to automatically patch the SS if it wrongly reports as SS v1. In that case you could just keep your image files and, if you ever wanted to go online, just patch them with the speculated-about version of ABGX.

Yes, they will still play fine. Security is the only issue.
