I already dumped my hitachi 79 FW and spoofed it to BenQ iX1.5 in JF.
I used Slax and it recognized the stock hitachi.

I bought a BenQ VAD6038 and want to put the spoofed FW on it. I can't get it to detect in JF. Sent Benq unlock and Intro/Device ID. First reports error, second says it failed. I tried it with tray half open as well. Nothing shows up in Flash chip properties or drive properties, but I can see my benq in bios no problem.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

did you disable the raid controller, remove the viamraid.sys or vsmraid.sys files from the Windows/system32/drivers folder and renable the controller?

I did try to power cycle the drive during Intro - is that what you mean?

Also, I don't have a VIA card, the Benq is connected via Sata cable to my Mobo. Do I still need to delete driver files?

My options in BIOS are IDE, RAID, and ACHI - this is ICH9, but already worked with the Hitachi/Slax. Computer won't boot if I choose IDE. Just wondering how I disable RAID?

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try them this afternoon and let you know.

Coorva, sorry I've found multiple methods involving power cycling.

I found one that just says push Intro, then pull power and plug back in within one second (this makes the green light flash on and off). JF still says intro failed, however.

Another says to eject the drive, power off, push the tray half way in, power back on.

Could you tell me the steps briefly for the method you use?
Just want to be sure I'm on track here.

well you're supposed to do it quickly but the 360 has a short delay between when you turn it off then back on that seems to mess with the intro. What I do is have it on, push the intro button, turn the 360 off, wait for a second, click ok then immediately turn it on and it should give you 0x73 status right away

Ok, I got rid of vsmraid.sys.

I also tried the sequence described above with Intro/Device ID and power cycling the drive. No luck. The drive is recognized in BIOS, but not by JF. It says Vendor Intro Failed.

Any ideas? I assume I need to get it to show status 0x73 somehow?

Thanks for your help so far.

see if viamraid.sys is in c:\windows\system32\drivers as well. Check device manager and see if the sata card is listed and if it is if it has an exclamation point or it's showing as working normally. If it's showing as working normally then you havent properly disabled your sata card's drivers. Also make sure portio32 drivers are installed and listed in device manager as well. Failing that then yea like wabashman said try getting the via 6421 pci sata card, they're cheap and work well. And yes 0x73 is vendor mode.

The files in question are definitely not in the system32/drivers folder anymore. I don't have any exclamation on device manager though. I do have a SATA card listed. Is that the problem?
How else can I kill the SATA drivers?

Portio Drivers are installed and listed in Device Manager

Any way to stop the computer from automatically reinstalling SATA drivers on reboot?

Just disabling rather than uninstalling and then rebooting should do it. If it's re-enabling it or re-installing automatically without asking you then the driver file itself is still present somewhere. You'll have to google and figure out exactly which driver files are installed for the card and remove them (or rename to .bak like I do so you can re-enable it later)

Tried that, no luck. I did get a status 0x7F, which is new.
Does that offer any clues?

I'll check on getting a via card.
Thanks for the help.

Update: I finally got it working. Thanks to all of you for your prompt replies and willingness to help. Afterdawn is awesome!

I had posted earlier that IDE was an option in my BIOS, but it would prevent windows from loading. The solution was to create a bootable USB drive with Dosflash on it, switch Mobo to IDE mode, then boot from USB and run Dosflash to flash the Benq. Once I switched to IDE, everything went exactly as the tutorials described.

The first response I got on this thread was correct - to be sure RAID was disabled. I just had to figure out how to do that on my particular BIOS.

My process:

ICH9 Mobo running Vista.
Dumped original Hitachi FW using Slax disc and JF. Used JF to spoof original FW to Benq FW. Then, created bootable usb flash drive and loaded Dosflash onto it.

Went into computer BIOS, switched mode from RAID to IDE, booted into DOS using USB flash drive, ran Dosflash. Erased FW on Benq with Dosflash, Wrote new FW file to Benq with Dosflash.

Thanks everyone!
