As the title says I bricked my 83850C v1 and need to get a new DVD drive, now can I get any ol' DVD drive (wanna sammy) or do I need another 83850C? I do have all the files (dummy id etc) from the lite-on if that helps... So can anyone help?

we had a blackout while I was erasing it, now neither the via card nor the 360 can notice its there... besides I want a different one instead of a lite-on.

1. Whats "LT"?
2. I tried several 360s and PC's and still no response
3. Can I just plug any ol' drive into it or what???

EDIT
Would I be able to buy a new lite-on drive and flash it with the original firmware???

hi

LT is the latest release of firmware for the range of liteon drives and should be the 1st choice if going on XBL anytime soon.

the reason for no response is that the drive has no firmware on it for anything to recognise.

i believe as you have the original files you can flash another drive and spoof it as a liteon but to be honest i think your drive is recoverable. there is a dos flash programme out there that will reflash your drive, you just need the right version for your PC's OS.

*****update*****

ok found this link provided in another post by miketrev :) hope it helps

Alright so what I should do is reflash the drive? well it keeps coming up drive status 0xFF whatever that means, I'm not a really good 360 flasher... but I only sometimes get to flash as only my old man has a computer, I have a laptop, so if I get a Hitachi I can hack it via USB correct??

EDIT

Alight thanks for the files, I will try it on Sunday :P

Would it matter if I put the files on a floppy or a CD? The computers BIOS doesnt support USB or SATA...

First of all you must have the key intact or you're screwed. If you do have the key and better yet if you already have the firmware made with your key you just need to properly erase the firmware on the drive. I think the reason the drive isn't being read is because of an unsuccessful erase. Lite-ons are notorious for this and they can be tricky to erase properly. Get a program called L-O-ERAS and run in through dos. Keep trying to erase it until you get a successful erase message and then start dosflash over again and go through the steps. Best of luck to you.

Thanks guys! I narrowed down the problem, not the 360 or the Drive but the VIA card got fried in the black out. My mate lent me his and used a CD to boot that DOS program from, flashed now I'm enjoying ME2 again!
