I have a question. I was reading that a new ms28 drive "(As Microsoft Xbox 360 requires a key from your board for the drive to work, you will have to flash the drive with this key for it to function.)". My question is could i take a ms28 drive and get it to work with any motherboard if i get that key off the motherboard? Even if the xbox origionally had another type or drive model (ex.. hitachi, lite on, etc..) If aanyone can help your help will be deeply appreciated. Thanks

For the most part, yes. If the drive model is the same, you can just replace the key itself and use the same type of firmware.

If the drive is of a different model than was originally in the Xbox, you will need to "spoof" the new drive to fool the 360 into thinking it is the same model as the original.

$15 on burn after burn that showed as a DVD -- Check
$11 on new laser -- Check
$28 on new multimeter -- Check

Back up the Hitachi drive's firmware and then connect the MS28 drive.

Now load the Hitachi backup file as the source file in Jungle Flasher, and the iXtreme Samsung file as the target file.

Hit "Spoof source to target" and your drive key will be copied to the copy of the modified (iXtreme) firmware in memory as well as the line that tells the drive what to tell the rest of the Xbox what it is.

And that's how to spoof a Samsung as a Hitachi.

You have to load source file(Hitachi) and load target file (Samsung) before you can hit the spoof button.

Thanks for your help. I will eventually try spoofing. I'm a noob to modding. I plan on experimenting next wk.

Good luck. I'm glad to help. Just refer to the Jungle Flasher tutorial and MAKE SURE you back-up your DVD key before you flash and you will be fine.
