My old drive has kicked it. I had this drive previously:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106228

But the drive has suddenly stopped reading disks, and in IMGburn gives me a "Device not ready" (No Reference Position Found). If anyone knows anything about this error, that'd be super too...

However, my main issue is that I now need to find a good drive that is actually available for purchase, at a reasonable price. I wasn't positive if this was ok for the 360 forum, but this seemed the best place to go for this specific topic.

I've got a Samsung SH-S223Q (now replaced by the L version I believe) and it works great. Burns games at 4x.

I also have a Pioneer DVR-216 which I have dogged in the past but actually is a good burner. I burn at 8x with it.

I'll second Leerage's recommendation for the Pioneer drive. I have the same drive and I like it a lot. No coasters and 8x burning (averages out to 6x speed when all is said and done on a burn). That's a 17 minute total time for a burn, from pressing Start to ejecting the tray.

$38 on new discs -- Check
$15 on burn after burn that showed as a DVD -- Check
$11 on new laser -- Check
$28 on new multimeter -- Check
