I have an Xbox 360 with BenQ drive, x-clamp fix has been perfect for half a year. I was playing a game today and just froze. Booted a couple times with no video and now it just freezes at first startup screen. Anyone had this? What should I do?

hmmmmmm

sounds like an overheating problem again, you won't lose out by removing the clamps, cleaning the old thermal paste off and re-doing the bolts. See if that cures it????

Okay, so I guess I should do the xclamp right this time. By drilling bigger holes for the screws, how many washers do I need to use?

Tried re pasting it and still nothing

I wouldnt mess with drilling. If you can make the screw head and washers the same size as the standoffs (3mm) then you'll have the board flat which is what you want. So this ends up being 1 thin #10 washer on the bottom side. Then you can use a 2mm thick #10 washer (or 2 of the thin ones) on the top side.

Really though the problem is likely broken solder somewhere. X-clamp fixes the flexing that breaks the solder but it doesnt actually fix the solder. I had 1 system that had a no video error (still got audio though) and I fixed it the same way I do all the other red ring systems: reflow with heatgun and replace x-clamp. I actually made a video earlier today of a 0102 red ring I did so I'll have it up soon, just gotta edit the pieces together. It's really pretty easy to do

ok mr gcooldude, i take it you overheated the gpu as per instructions? if that is the case and you still have the 3rrod then its as good as a test piece. I would suggest having a look through the oven reflow method, this takes a bit of patience with setting up but can yield good results. Apart from that is the option of a heatgun fix which is also risky but can do the business if done properly.

There are plenty of posts on here for heat gunning and also youtube for baking in the oven :)

I saw a video on youtube. You actually put the 360 in its case in the oven for 15 minutes? Wont that melt the xbox or damage it?

in it's case? No I certainly wouldnt recommend that. When you do the high temperature oven bake you want to have the motherboard in there without the heatsinks attached and everything thoroughly insulated other than the CPU/GPU/HANA chips. If it's not insulated well there's the possibility that either plastic connectors will melt or even worse your capacitors will pop and then they have to be replaced. It creates smoke too but is supposedly a good reflow. Personally I think the heatgun is much safer because I can direct the heat exactly where I want it (and it takes less prep work). Here's my vid of how I fixed a 3 red earlier which is the same problem as no video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEvfBS6Tams
There's also a low temperature oven method that I've used a couple times to flatten the board if it's been warped too much. Basically you have your oven at 170F/80C and because of the low temperature you dont need insulation. You will need to heatgun afterward though because that isnt hot enough to melt the solder either. I do it for 4 hours but some people recommend up to 8. This lets it get all the moisture out as too...I live in florida so it's always humid and it creates problems with the 360.

Whatching your video. So you do this heat gun thing for 5 minutes and it should work?
Also, how do you find out what your error code is on the 360?

I am just waiting for this to cool. How long should I wait? You say 30 minutes, another video I watched said 6 hours.
