My hacked Wii works fine from the USB HD, but now the DVD player in the Wii has died. All I get is "unable to read disc" and I can hear the drive clicking when it is trying to read the disc. Is there any way to hook up an external DVD player and have the Wii play my DVD disc's from that? My kids have a bunch of disc.

I do have an extended warranty I purchased with it and can get it repaired for FREE, but if I send it in, then it has a software hack in it and the repair center may refuse to repair it or they may repair it and that will wipe out my hack to play from the hard drive along with all the kids game data.

Suggestions anyone on if this ext dvd will work or what to do here? Or can I revert back to the original unmodded software in my Wii?

Many Thanks!

You cant play from an external DVD drive because DVD drives can't read wii game disks. Even if you managed to dig up one of the LG drives that can be used to dump the games to isos it still wont work because even those drives can only read the disks in a very limited way.

Luckily for you, nintendo doesn't seem to care about mods made to the wii. If it's still under warranty then just send it in and they'll fix it. They will remove the softmod and usb loader, but they're fairly easy to restore.

I don't know if their methods to remove softmods will wipe the wii's memory though. Make sure you back up all your save games to your SD card before sending it in.

There are also wii drives for sale on some websites. If you buy one of them then replacing the drive is a fairly simple procedure. But the drives do cost a fair amount of cash, I would go with the nintendo service.

Is there anyway to remove the softmod/homebrew?

Sure, didn't you read what I said? Send it to nintendo for service. They'll still give it service despite whatever you've done to it, but they'll remove the softmod.

I certainly did read your post and thanks for the suggestion, but this is probably not going to Nintendo, this is a Walmart warranty plan, I don't know where they send it to(looks like the shipping label says Syrma, TN.)and I was wanting to try and put it back in the virgin state like it was before the softmod. I don't know if this warranty place will kick it back because of the mod, Nintendo might not, but they might.
