Hello,

I have been backing up my DVD collection and have come across a disc that can not be read by any of my DVD drives. It plays perfectly in standalone players (tried in Pioneer, Panasonic and Conia players) but can not be read at all by my Sony DVD ROM (although this unit is a piece of crap) and in the LG DVD burner windows reports it as being blank cd media, not even dvd media. The movie is call "Revelation" (If that is of any relevance). The disc is in good condition, I have even tried hiring a copy from the video shop but this will not play also. I have tried using data recovery software as a last ditch effort to access the disc but even this can not recognise the media. I am backing up using, dvd43, dvdshrink, and nero, and every other disc has worked perfectly. I was wondering if there was some sort of copy protection that stopped the disc from being readable in DVD-ROM drives, but can not find any information that would make me think that is the case. The only strange thing that I notice about the disc is that the media is more silver in colour than any of my other discs that have a sort of light brown look about them. Has anyone else come across this or is it just an anomoly with the particular media used to press this disc.

All comments appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Azray,

Welcome to the forum -

Try ripping the DVD with DVD Decrypter. Also look for a firmware upgrade, it may well help your drive to read more DVD media -

NOTE: You want to pull more crap like getting DVD from the video store, don't even think about coming back here.

Thanks for the feedback Pete but I have the latest firmware installed and I have already tried DVD Decrypter. I have tried the media in several other dvd roms since my post and none of them will read the disc. I am convinced that it has something to do with the media.

NOTE: I have only tried to PLAY the hired copy in the DVD ROM NOT COPY it, if the hired copy worked I would have returned my store bought copy for another, but seeing as it didnt work it is hardly worth the effort. If you insist on passing judgement on the actions of others I suggest you read posts a little more carefully in future.

Apparently Not.

It probably has to do with what you said and may not have been your intention. When you say that you hired a copy from the video shop, that might give the impression that you paid someone to make you a copy. If you had said that you tried renting the same DVD, just to see if that would play because your original DVD would not, there would not have been that question.
There are so many newbie posts on this forum that violate the forum rules that you do need to be careful that you don't give that impression.
