Hey everyone. So I have a 3.3u system, and I want to upgrade to a version that will allow me to load wads off the an SD card, as well as use MotionPlus.
All that I've really installed in my Wii is the HBC. I haven't done anything with IOS's, and the whole IOS business really confuses me.
What exactly do I need to do to get these features while still being able to run Homebrews?
quip seems a little out of date. There are no problems with newer firmwares anymore. Even 4.2, once a huge hindrance to softmodding, now can be modded in less than 10 minutes.
It doesn't even seem that you want to softmod though, just run recent backup games. So in that case you can just upgrade the wii online or from a recent game disk. If your homebrew channel is fully updated then the upgrade won't effect it.
The wad manager and a few other homebrew apps will be blocked by the newer firmware, but they can easily be restored by following the first part of larry's softmod guide up to the cIOS38 install step. (I assure you that the guide is FAR less complex than it looks)

If you mean install WAD files using an SD Card then you can stay on 3.3U firmware and follow the 4.1 and below firmware softmod guide in my sig.
If you mean play channels (VC/WiiWare/Homebrew) from SD card then you will need to update to 4.0 firmware and above. If this is what you want then I would update to 4.2 firmware and follow the 4.2 firmware softmod guide in my sig.
