I'll come right out and admit it; I'm a complete newbie to this stuff but I'm looking to learn as much as possible. I just had my 360 modded by a local shop and want to find a way to rip games instead of having to download these huge files.
Been browsing the site and have a decent idea of what all goes into this stuff, but I do have a few questions that I haven't been able to find specific answers to:
1. If I download a game, is that all I need to do or is there another step before burning it? This is assuming it's already been patched and is region free/the correct region.
2. I have a laptop; is there any way for me to rip games using my internal DL-capabale DVD writer? Is there any method that does not require removing the top of the drive to rip a game? A certain drive that will rip them without having to open it up? If not, can my laptop's DVD drive be modified to rip games somehow or will I need an external drive?
3. What happens if the game is too large to fit onto a single disc? I've heard stories of 12+ GB games; are there discs that large?
4. I rarely play online; only a single Madden online franchise. If I log onto XBL to play Madden (the original copy) with my modded console, will I run the risk of being banned or is this only the case when playing backups online or during updates? Is just logging onto XBL enough for them to detect a modded console?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out. I've learned a lot in the last few days just by browsing the forums, so hopefully I'll get this stuff down sooner rather than later!

Dont patch your games, you will get banned. Stealth check them with ABGX, details on this are in the Ultimate Sticky

The only safe way of backing up games at the moment is with a XBOX 360 DVD drive flashed with 0800 firmware. Kreon & xWripper methods do not catch all the data.

No, XBOX games are on a DVD and therefore restricted by the amount of DATA that fits on a DVD. The stories you have probably heard are peeps downloading double disk games (games with 2 DVD's) such as FORZA 3.

If you mod, you run the risk of being banned. Yes there are steps you can perform in order to decrease the risk, but the risk is always there
Hope this helps and let us know if you need any more help.

So you rip the game from the 360 console itself to an external hard drive or what? Is there some extra type of software/equipment I'd need for this? I'm sure this is here somewhere, but there seems to be several methods for ripping and they're all starting to run together for me.
Is there a specific tutorial on this somewhere? The one I've been going by uses DVD Decrypter & a few other programs. That seems out of date.
Done a bit more research. I've found several 360 drives available on eBay - would one of those work for my laptop using a sata/ide (not sure; which is it?) to usb adapter using it as an external drive? Is that what was being mentioned above?
Sorry if I come off as clueless; it's just because I am. Starting to get the hang of this stuff (I think/hope anyway).
Also, what's my best bet as far as xbox 360dvd drives are concerned? What's the best drive? Best value for the price? What are my options there? I'd rather not use the drive that's in my console if I can help it.
