Ive flashed my xbox with Ixtreme 1.6
I burned modern warfare 2 by instructions from here, which worked on gta 4 etc.
when I put it in my xbox360 it says to put the cd in a xbox 360

Yes and No, the upgrade process involve going back to stock firmware
and apply all system updates before flashing with LT. All future console system updates (not game updates) must be applied with caution.
LT = Ixtreme Lite Touch release for Liteon drive only at this time!

where can I get stck firmware?
Do you apply that just like you would firmware 1.6 also?

This is what I recommend?.
1.Return to stock firmware, the stock firmware is included in the LT firmware download that you can find using xbin or Here, follow this Jungleflasher tutorialto go back to stock.
2.Now that you are back to stock, make sure your system is up to date, you can do this by playing Left 4 Dead 2 You will be prompt for a systemupdate = new Wave 5 games then play Army of two 40th day again you will prompt for a systemupdate = new Wave 6 games, after this you should be all good to go.
3. Now you are ready to upgrade to LT just follow the jungleflasher tutorial!

They mean always revert to stock firmware before applying a systemupdate. Game updates are ok to do on LT firmware.

Maybe one of your friends as a copy of the game?
I guess you can still upgrade without upgrading your system for futur games Wave 5 & 6, but for sure you will need to in the near futur! and at that point you will need to flash back to stock then upgade the system and go back to LT!
So just login to live to see if your system is current, then update!
