So, new to hit the fw creation scene is this guy named loop. He is currently in the process of creating a stealth firmware to be released publically. He states that his firmware will be safer than LT on live. As for me, I am inclined to believe him, especially being that LT had no release notes really, and is encrypted which disables many of us from viewing its actual code.

If anyone wants more information on LoopGuard or would like to keep up to date with it, visit twitter.com/loopguard or join #loopguard on efnet.

PS: check out the paste pin of the conversation with the creator as well: http://pastebin.com/m1be1a445

ummm... a couple things. this loop32 never addresses why loopguard is better than lt. he also mentions that he's never looked into lt or any ix firmware so how would he know it's better. even if loopguard does see the light of day... i trust the guy who has been doing this for a while over a first timer. not saying that it won't play backups, but with ixtreme you have seen the trial and error.

i don't think any firmware will ever be "safe" but it would be nice to see competition out there.

Amazing what a little bit of competition in the market will do.

If this LT release really is a response to the release of the LoopGuard firmware (which at this point is vaporware), does that mean that Team Jungle is a little shaken up by it?

It's all just purely speculation at this point, of course.

To be honest, I think the timing of this all is coincidence. I have only heard about this latest effort from a few select sources.
And yes, you are very correct in saying that it is vaporware, because it is just that. It has not yet materialized yet.

Only time will tell, but I can tell you this: if LoopGuard ever releases, to me, it is less risky to trust a "first timer" than it is to trust a money hungry c4e.

that's almost like saying you'd rather use the first version of modded software for the 360 instead of LT.

It happens in every established scene. It is bound to happen sooner or later and hope it does materialize. I take nothing away from C4E.

Life can get tough and you may be doing all you can....and other people capitalize from your labor while you may find it hard to pay your own bills. Would you refuse an offer to put food on your table for you and your loved ones at the risk of losing your internet notoriety?

I hope everyone that has found LT useful has donated something.

-MG

"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."

So you would rather use an unknown firmware from a newcomer and have no way of telling what it may do to your xbox or if its even safe because c4e may or may not have wanted subsidised for the efforts he has put into allowing you and thousands more play games for free.

Talk about being ungrateful.

If it is loop32 that hangs out in the irc channels, he is a 16 year old from California so I wouldn't put much into it.

LiteOn firmware itself is heavily encrypted.

No vaporware better than the vaporware of a high school kid :)

I've got a very large salt shaker on hand for future claims made this person.

Thanks for the info.

What can I say, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. I'm not much older than him and look at some of the contributions I've made. I've written in depth tutorials for hitachis, benq's and sammys. And I've helped numerous people. So I don't think his age is really a factor.

And you know what, c4e's fw had to start somewhere too. If I Have to give this kid his start and use his firmware, I will, for the sake of competition.

This scene needs this.

I agree with this. I was certainly doing a lot more hacking when I was 16 than I am now, a decade later, with a real life and a real job to worry about. Hell, I even ran the premier hack site for EverQuest when I was 16, and created a money/item 'dupe' for another online game that netted me a nice little fistful of real life cash back then.

However, that being said, I also know that 8 out of 10 of these guys are wannabes. I will keep my eyes open for new developments, but won't be holding my breath. I've seen enough vaporware never materialize to know better :)

[12:07] <@loop32> i didn't even start the project
[12:07] <@loop32> it wasn't my idea

Yet in the paste bin he says he is the firmware creator. Just idle in #loopguard and you'll see for yourself.

Whether it turns out or not, only time will tell. But you know what, I am excited. The scene could use some competition! Can you imagine the work that will arise?

Money hungry. What's the reason for that comment?

because it's absolutely rediculous to want money for the work you do.

Uff.. *face palm*

Look. What I am saying is, I have spent many hours of my time helping out people from the scene for free. And I am the type of person who takes pride in work like this. I would rather be a part of something bigger than me and do it for free than be paid and look back later with regret because it cost me everything I had earned.

It's a matter of self respect. If he needs a supplemented income, he should say so. People are much more apt to donate if they know the actual situation and aren't lied to.

Now, back on topic. No more scene drama. It's all dumb anyways, just enjoy what's here, and look forward to what's coming. So, what do you think about loopguard?

No. I wasn't being sarcastic. I was seriously asking. Is there some new post or log somewhere that has C4E looking to get paid? I hadn't heard of anything.

All I know is people who had nothing to do with the scene kept speculating that the LT delay must be because the team was looking to get paid. And everyone else took it as fact.

So I was just wondering if I missed something and someone had a link or something so I can read where the team said they wanted paid.

That's all. If there's something I missed, I'd just like to read about it.

the team wanting to get paid was in iriez's memoir thing. there were a couple of follow up stories/threads about how that wasnt true and all that, but that was the original mentioning of it.
