My PS3 wont read any games so i am guessing laser gone.

How hard is it to change the laser?

If i change a drive for a new one do i need to swap the boards like with the xbox?

I have the same problem with my 60 gig. It's past warranty and i took it apart. Every time i put a disc in it goes to a read screen, and never changes or reads. I saw that the disk wasn't spinning I was wondering what i have to do. Or if somebody has a Blu-ray player that they would like to sell cheap, it can be from a broken PS3 as long as the problem wasnt with the blu-ray drive too :)

when i put dics in nothing happens on the dashboard no signs of the disc symbol.

I know for a 60GB drive would the laser fit into my 40GB?

As i been looking on ebay for a replacement drive and looks like the 60GB drives are different to 40GB.

I had the same problem, I think its down to me smoking in the same room as my PS3 and it dirty's the lense.

I took my PS3 apart as its out of warranty and cleaned the lense with a cue-tip and some lens cleaner now it works fine, if your ps3 is out of warranty its worth a try, there are loads of dissassembly guides out there.

Tried cleaning the laser no luck same prob no disc image appearing on dashboard so guess new laser needed.

Will the laser out of a 60gb ps3 fit into my 40gb ps3 drive?
