Hello Everyone.

I've probably flashed 20-30 drives in my time so I'm not a total n00b.

BUT, I have a Hitachi Stock 59dj that is kicking my butt.

I'm using the Xbox 360 as my power source just as I have always done.
I've used SLAX to put the drive in ModeB.
I'm assuming it is in ModeB as at the end of the linux code of SLAX it show GDR-3120 ---> Mode B = Thanks to <someone's name>

Assuming that ModeB via SLAX is not working I've tried it from JungleFlasher also.

I'm able to see the drive when selecting the ports. But after ejecting the drive and selecting <Send ModeB> these are the results:
------------------------------------------
Drive, answers normal Windows Inquiry 12 0 0 0 24 0
0000: 05 80 00 32 5B 00 00 00 - 48 4C 2D 44 54 2D 53 54 ...2[...HL-DT-ST
0010: 44 56 44 2D 52 4F 4D 20 - 47 44 52 33 31 32 30 4C DVD-ROM GDR3120L
0020: 30 30 35 39 0059

Mode-B Done!
Scanning for hardware changes
Found drive C: - Hard Drive.
No Hitachi drives were found!
------------------------------------------

The drive will not show up in Device Manager no matter what.

So far I've used 2 machines to try and detect the Hitachi.

A Dell with an Intel chipsert\sata controller and a my newer Acer machine that has an NForce chipset\sata controller.

Really appricate any and all help.

I forgot to add that the drive functions normally.

Plays games, dvds, cds but is developing the Open Tray error.

Just trying to spoof a BenQ with my Hitachi key.

All I really need is the key off the Hitachi, I'm not even trying to flash it's FW.

Have you tried using Jungle Flasher to put the drive into mode B?

$38 on new discs -- Check
$15 on burn after burn that showed as a DVD -- Check
$11 on new laser -- Check
$28 on new multimeter -- Check

Yeah, these are the results when using JF.
Like I said Send-ModeB seems to function properly but afterwards it states "No Hitachi drives were found!"

I'm able to use open\close command buttons and they work.

Am I required to use a 79 unlock cd for a 59dj DVD-ROM?
I wouldn't think so but please correct me if I'm wrong.

WOW! I just used my SATA-to-USB convertor and JungleUSB.

Took less than 5 minutes.

No matter what I tried whether it be SLAX, JF, or the crossed wire method nothing would put that sucker in Mode-B.

JungleUSB and JF did the trick and it was more than easy.

Just FYI this is the hardware I used:
Dell 8400 (Windows XP Pro)
+ a very cheap Sata-to-USB convertor. (It doesn't even have a brand name)

Another happy X360!
