What exactly happens when you get banned from xbox live because of a flashed xbox360? Is it your consul, hardrive, or ip address that is banned for life? Or is it just the xbox live user name? Thanks.
1. Gamertag ban. Can either be temporary or permanent. Bans just the specific gamertag, rather than the console or other gamertags used on it.
2. Console ban. Permanent. You cannot access any Live services at all on that console so it's an offline only box from that point on. Recent bans also go a step further and prevent hard drive installations and swapping a gamertag/game saves between the banned and an unbanned box, although there are workarounds for that. A console ban does not prevent you from using your gamertag on other consoles.
2 is what happens when flashed 360s are detected on Live. Your IP address is not banned, so you can buy a new console and play online again using your existing gamertag. Also, when hard drive installations are blocked on a banned console, they're disabling a feature in the dashboard rather than gimping your hard drive in some way. The hard drive itself will still function as normal when connected to an unbanned console.
your HD doesnt function as normal after the console gets banned any more. When you put it in the unbanned system if it detects the gamertag at all when you try to load a saved game it will say the game save is corrupted
the cops come knocking at your door, and take all your stuff and throw you in jail. if you are not there, they take your console to their place, and keep it.

The hard drive functions as normal, but the game saves/gamertag do not. That's the distinction I was trying to make in my previous post, although perhaps I didn't make that clear.

Wabashman you know thats not true..... they actually break in, wreck your home then sell all your stuff on fleabay :) oh and they beat up on your pets lol. Well thats what happened to me anyway....... btw we all know that cops or police :) can't play any sort of games console as its beaten out of them in training school.

When my flashed 360 was banned in november, i bought a new arcade, put on my old HD, recovered my GT from Live and all my game saves and downloadable content were fine.
Hell, I had Bill Gates himself show up at my door with 2 police officers. They demanded I turn my box over. But to be cool about it, they gave me a 30 day LIVE GOLD trial towards my next xbox360 purchase.
