Hi there, my friend is selling an xbox360 elite (GOW2 Ltd Edition) from 2008.

Just want to know if it can be modded as i currently have a white normal xbox 360 but ide prefer to have this one that matches the black set up in my room.

Could someone assist further - i have no idea which drive is in it..

Really? I was told when mine was modded around 8 months ago that the newer consoles couldnt be flashed (something to do with the drive inside the console).

So its 100% safe for me to purchase the xbox and it can be flashed just like my older one was? If so, ill go ahead and buy it. The person i know who does the mods said he can only flash drives and doesnt deal with soldering modchips onto boards and stuff, therefore if it will require any soldering then i cannot purchase.

My little brother will be made up to have my old 360!

Hope i can be guarenteed by the xbox pros on here! Never been let down yet!

As sicdude said, all 360s can be modded.

Well that might be an issue. All LiteOn drives should have the firmware fully dumped which requires cutting traces and then either solder or probe the PCB board. If it is a BenQ, then you won't have to do anything but dump the firmware via SATA and be done.

If all you want is a black console, you can buy a black elite case off the net for much cheaper than what's prob gonna cost you for a new console. Also, it'll be easier to just change the case than flash another drive. That's what I did for my GF who wanted an elite in the first place, but couldn't afford the extra at the time. Pickd up a second hand case off ebay for £25 incl P&P, so that could also be an option for you. :-D

Thanks for all the info.
Ive recently come across a website which does external flashed cd drives (not sure how it works) assuming it just plugs into the usb?

Would this work instead of cracking the xbox open?(for simplicity)

or would it require further modifications on the xbox

No, that will not work. Like what was already stated, the drive's firmware has to be read in order to be flashed. Whether you use the drive in the 360 or use a different drive, the original needs read.
