NES with 'Stadium Events' sells for $13,000

article published on 14 February, 2010

A game collector has just paid an astonishing price for a 20-year old NES console on eBay, $13,105, and no, that isn't a typo. The system came included with one of the top three rarest Nintendo classic games in existence, Stadium Events, which was released in 1987 by Bandai. There are said to be only 10 copies of the game left in the world. Besides Stadium Events, the console came ... [ read the full article ]

I didn't have this game, but there were lots of others I had. It makes me wonder if I sold anything for .50 Cents that is worth a fortune.

The seller must not have been aware of the "value" of Stadium Events as they didn't even have it listed in a subtitle.

I'm wondering what the system would have sold for if they had the game listed in the auction name or subtitle, as that surely would have attracted more bidders.

The only reason the Stadium Events game is worth anything is because it is extremely rare, as there are supposed just 10 copies left in the world.

It would be pretty sick if the Angry Video Game Nerd was the buyer. He only needs a few more games to complete is collection.

The game also came with the original box, likely even more valuable than the game itself. ---Chikn

I did a search as well, it's at $12K with 9 days left and an unknown reserve. I'm betting the reserve is north of $15K. Here's the auction:

FACTORY SEALED NEW NES NINTENDO STADIUM EVENTS NTSC.

I'm thinking that the wildfire-like spread of the news from the auction in this article caused people with the game to "wake up" and sell it.

But supposedly there were only 200 NTSC copies ever distributed....there are way more PAL copies. People on ebay are getting totally ripped! I checked out the one you have and it's an NTSC copy that hasn't been opened. I'll have to keep an eye on this one...curious to see what it goes for...

WOW! I'm gonna have to go through my collection of old games...I seem to remember having a big collection of olympics-type games for my old NES...I even have the boxes for most of them! I might even have that stupid running pad thing somewhere around here (The wII isn't the first nintendo that makes you look like an idiot when you are playing sports games)

It is amazing what collectors buy...
-A game so terrible that it sold only a few copies...12,000 x more than a good game
-Misprinted stamps & money. - thousands of times more than face value.
-Defective electronics that were recalled. (like the first-gen Apple mainboard that Apple tried to buy back because they were so crummy...they go for like 50 grand!)

With three days left! Anyone want to guess what it's closing price is going to be? I'm guessing close to, if not over, $50,000.

I've been following a thread on nintendoage.com and at $22,300 it's already broken the record for highest selling price of any video game! CRAZY! I'm going to watch the auction before it closes on Friday. Maybe I'll place my bid....haha yeah right! Who has that kind of money to spend on a game anyway??$#)($)#(
