With the release of FF13 coming up, I'd like to buy a 360 but only if I go ahead and mod it to play other games as well. I went through some posts here but I had a couple questions I just wanted to get sorted away. From what I gather, you don't need an actual modchip to play backups? Just flashing the drive of the console? What exactly do I need to do that? I saw a guide here, is that generally it or is there more to it?
Also, are there any cons to this? I imagine it voids the warranty, but how about things like playing on LIVE? I thought I read that users get banned for modding their 360's. How much of a problem is that still? Also for burning games, which type of disks are used? I want to order everything I need this week, any input would be appreciated. I'm a little uneasy doing this but it doesn't seem terribly difficult.
I see that, I apologize. One thing I'm unsure of though is what DVD Drive I'm likely to get purchasing now. Is it generally random or am I likely to get one over the other purchasing at this time? I was going to buy at NewEgg, the MicrosoftXbox 360 Elite 120 GB Hard Drive Black - Retail. Are some drives easier to deal with than others?

you're more than likely to get the liteon drive (9 series) if you purchase it new and it takes some know how to do as well. benqs are the easiest i believe and most forgiving. do a lot of reading. the stickies are a great place to look and the search function is an awesome tool.
