Make sure the green light is not blinking, then open cd tray. Doing it like this has never gave me a problem yet.

After reading about the r200 I am thinking of getting it. I am not experienced so would like some info. I do not understand the tpe of different type of disks need or the type of disk I can not use with the r200. Nor do I know where to get them from. Also the cost of running i.e ink. If anyone can give me advice on these and any other advice you think I may need it will be much appreciated. Thanks.

This might be stating the obvious, but you need discs advertised as being inkjet printable.

Any other types and the ink will just make a puddle on the disc and go everywhere.

Since you don't say where in the world you live, I'll give you a link to the place I use here in the UK - http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk.

As far as the cost of ink goes, some people reckon the R200 is a little thirsty, but I only use mine for disc printing while my work-horse of a Photo 870 is still going strong so I can't say I've noticed any problems. Mind you, with generic inks costing less than £4 a cart, I can't say I'm worried about the running costs.

Well I do like this site. I have never got an answer so quick and I thank you for the link. I do live in uk so it will be very usefull. At the moment I have a Lexmark Z52 so I can not see the ink being more expencive then this. Again thank you for your time. By the I refill my cartdrideges with JR ink is that possible with the R200

Not with the standard carts, at least not easily.

I refil the ones in my 870, but the R200 ones are a lot more complicated. I don't have a link to hand, but if you google for a phrase like "negative pressure refill" you'll probably come up with something. I have seen some CIF solutions that use custom manufactured cartridges (ie hollow ones, no chambers and "always full" chips), but they are rare in the UK.

That link I gave you earlier also sells generic carts, and while I haven't started them yet, I did buy some recently in one of their offer packs at a cracking price compared to the genuine Epson.

As I say, I only use mine for discs (and the occasional "regular" print job if I'm too lazy to fire up the 870), but so far I have to say I'm very pleased with it.

I have had no problems with the disc loader, although I will be asking Epson for a spare caddy as the one they supply is sturdy enough but could, in my opinion, be better. I like to have spares of things like this.

Personally I have found good prints on most discs can be achieved by knocking the intensity slider one notch into the "darker" category, but after that the defaults seem to work well. I certainly have no complaints, but be aware the tight gits at Epson don't supply a USB cable with the printer, and it doesn't have a parallel connection so it won't work "out the box".

HI:

my 2 cents on the r200. I have the printer for about 3 months. The first 30 or so dvd's printed perfectly (I use 20x120 setting for full face verbatim and 43x120 for ritek go4, both white printable).

My problem is that the tray will not go in after about 30 prints. Epson sent me a new tray (they really put off sending a new printer) and that tray did exactly the samething. I'm using the epson print CD software. when i go to print the tray gets bumped out 2 clicks, the printer head goes side to side a few times and then the tray starts to go into the printer but stops. All I have to do is nudge it and its fine buts its a pain in the butt cause I have it setup in a closet next to my computer desk and cant see it from my chair. I have to babysit every print.

Epson is now sending me a 3rd tray. After this one messes up I will demand a new (refurb) printer. The tech actually wanted me to uninstall the software and re-install. I refused because this is a hardware problem. I told him I was an A+ certified tech and he backed off. Personally I think all the r200's have a tray problem.

lastly sometimes the tray tries to get thrown out the rear for no reason at all. I have a wall behind the printer so it hits the wall and seems to want to get spit out 3 times (it cant because of the wall) and then it resets itself and everything is ok except for me having to nudge it...wow that was a dollars worth! Regards...

I am having lots of problems myself and was surfing and reading. Read here where someone wanted a program for printing covers. I have found a good program and it is free! There is nothing better than free.

hi:

I just got off the phone with Epson. They just sent me a 3rd tray for my R200 and I am still having a problem with the tray loading in. Apparently they realized that there is something wrong with the printer itself.

They are sending me a replacement printer at no charge (3-5 business days). This is a score because hopefully it will solve my problem and it comes with all new ink. My current ink supply was about 25% remaining on all cartridges. Epson did the right thing. Cheers for Epson. Regards...
