Right so i picked up a playstation 3 yesterday a 60g one and it was used for 2 months untill it packed in and stopped reading discs. so i have another 60g playstation here which was working fine so i took the blu-ray unit out put it into the other playstation and the discs were now spinning but still not loading.
So i then checked the harddrive and the harddrive was corrupt so formatted it and tried but still no luck. so i then put a new 60g harddrive in it and it was ok but the games are still not loading.
in the top right hand corner the icon spins then stops but will still NOT load the game.
That seems odd and I don't know what happened to your new 60GB, but I've owned my first generation 60GB PS3(NTSC, USA) for the last 4 years and it has been playing and still play any PS3 games, PS2 games, PSOne games, AVI, DivX, (MP4, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC) DVD movies and CDs flawlessly.
Sounds like your blueray drive's laser has gone bad, they die rather quickly on some PS3's. Also you can't just Swap Blueray drives you should just replace the laser, you have to make sure they match ( same model there are 2 models i believe) or if not it won't work.
