Can't play avi files on X box using My Movies

I followed this 19 page process and still can't seem to find what the problem is. I downloaded Transcode 360, ffdshow, Codec installation pack from Microsoft. When I try to play using My Movies on the X box I get the error "Cannot Play Video" either the file is corrupted or the proper codecs aren't installed. I've used local and UNC paths from My Movies Management, the UNC path gives the Cannot Play error, the local path gives the path not found error.


The movies play fine on my laptop using My Movies though. What could be the problem? I've temporary just converted the movies to .wmv files so they can play, but that sucks and is time consuming so a resolution would be great.

I'm running Vista 32-bit and My Movies 3.

Here's the steps I followed.

try using tversity. setup takes about 5 minutes and you're good to go. i use it on my 360 and ps3 since they're in different rooms.

do you have media center? if so why don't you use that?

I use My Movies in Media Center. If I just use the Media Center by itself .avi files still wont play, I have to convert them to .wmv. I was looking at TVersity but what format does it change the .avi files to?
