so i just got a new SH-D163C ... yes thats the correct numbers on the drive i have.. and i need to flash it with kreon firmware.. my problem is that there is no firmware for the drive on xbins.. just a and b.. NOW.. i was told that my 163C is just the 163B according to ebay where i got it.. .said this:

CHANGE PRODUCT NAME D163B -> D163C(JAN.25.2010)

if thats true then my firmware is indeed on xbins..but i tried that and still i cannot get the drive flashed.. any ideas on how to manually flash the drive? any help would be greatly apprecieted.. thanks in advance guys

Hello, I received my sh-d163b in the mail today. I was planning on flashing it with the Kreon firmware. So, I ran the sfdnwin.exe, chose my sh-d163b, chose the SH-D163B_SB01_KREON_V100.BIN firmware file, and, to my surprise, it gave me an error message! It said, "This Firmware is not compatible with the selected drive." I then realized that it was sb01, and mine was sb03. So, is there any way to either downgrade my firmware to make it compatible, use this firmware anyway, or find a Kreon firmware compatible with my version of this drive? Thanks in advance.
Also, you should be aware that Kreon backups are not the safest compared to the alternative ripping method, a 360 DVD drive flashed with 0800 firmware. Kreon does not detect the correct angles in SS while 0800 does.

However, I don't think 0800 is compatible with your current drive. If you plan on ever playing on Live with those backups, I would get another DVD ripping drive... one that supports 0800.

Then again, you could always rip with the Kreon drive and then just patch the SSv2 file using ABGX for extra security.

If you don't care about Xbox Live, or your console is already banned, then it really doesn't matter unless you trade with friends.

$38 on new discs -- Check
$15 on burn after burn that showed as a DVD -- Check
$11 on new laser -- Check
$28 on new multimeter -- Check
