My son recently deleted my profile along with all of my save files (and just when I was two missions away from completing ME2!!!)

In an attempt to bring them back from the dead, I was wondering if connecting the hard drive to my PC using an XPORT device and then running a program like Drive Digger might work.

Has anyone ever tried anything similar? If so, what were the results?

There is a way to delete the profile and no longer have access to the save games, but they will still exist on the hard drive. The option on the 360 makes it sound like you will still be able to use your save games, but in fact they are only able to be used by the profile that created them.

I ran into this when my 360 was banned and it kept trying to log automatically into Live. Since I was too dense to figure out how to change the automatic log-in settings, I figured I would just delete the profile and continue my save game from a new profile. I didn't care about gamerscore points or whatever. I was very sad to see that it didn't work that way.

What I was able to do was connect my hard drive to my PC with a normal SATA cableand use 360 Xplorer (I think that was the program), along with a save game modification program that I can't recall the name of. I found my save game files that I wanted, then edited them using the game save program to change the profile ID to a new profile that I created. After you re-generate the CRC, you just transfer the save game over to the folder of the new profile and put everything back together.

If you are sure that your son used the other option, which is to delete both the profile AND the save games (but keep in mind that he did not necessarily do that), then yes, I believe that just about any program that recovered deleted data could be used to restore the file. After you restore the file, you will have to then go through the process that I mentioned.

Nope, no joy. Xport have a new version of their software that enables you to undelete files, however Vista keeps closing it and then throwing up a DEP warning.
