Is it possible to flash a normal DVD +RW drive and put it in my 360? I don't care about cosmetics so it doesn't matter if it fits in the case. I'm wondering this because I don't want to wreck my 360's actual drive by bricking it.
Second, if you fail at flashing, and you "brick" your drive as is said, can you put the original firmware on it and get it running again or do you have to buy a new drive?
the dvd drive needs to be dual layer and not rw. it has to be an official drive flashed with your specific drive key that issued to each individual drive by microsoft and the drive manufacturers... you can order another drive off of deal extreme and spoof it :)

No. You can purchase another XBOX 360 drive and flash it with your DVDkey etc. If you do the research and read up on it, you won't brick your drive.

Yes, the BenQ, Samsung, and LiteOn are recoverable. The Hitachi drive is the one you need to worry about.
Alright, so say I "brick" my drive because I'm a retard software developer that knows nothing about hardware. How would I recover it with the original firmware and not the hacked firmware? If it matters, I have a LiteOn.

Use Jungle Flasher. Simply send the Intro to the drive, then power cycle the drive.
