Nephew?s PS3 will only play Metal Gear Solid. He has 5 or 6 other PS3 games, I don?t know what they are.
When attempting to play the other games, ?Unusable Video? immediately appears on the 1080pHDTV Screen.
I told him to do the system reset thing (with system in stand by, hold the power button for 10sec). Hoping someone checked 1080p on the settings or something.
Does this sound right? Has anyone else had this problem?
Well, the video reset actually resets the video settings back to 480i(/p, if you're connected via HDMI cable), so he would have to reconfigure the video settings.
The only thing I can think of right now is that maybe he'd had 720p or 1080i unchecked. I know some people like to force their games to display at 1080p, so they uncheck 720p and 1080i. Those games that don't have native resolutions of 1080p will sometimes upscale to it, but more often than not it'll downscale to 480p.
That might be the problem your nephew's having. Otherwise it could just be the switch from PS3 to game that's mucking up the TV for a second. Have you let it run until you heard sound? It might be the TV adjusting for resolutions. (That little screen flicker that happens is, I think, the indication of a resolution change. Don't hold me to that, though.)
Everything Video wise quit working. Wound up unplugging the HDMI cable while PS3 and TV was on and plugging it back up. Was apparently some type of Handshaking problem with the HDMI. Works fine now.
