Kinda a noobish question I know, but can I dump the nand on a falcon with just the 8 LTP wires attached and no JTAG wire?

I though I could, but i keep getting "no flash controller detected", I have checked all my wiring with a multimeter and it all checks out.

Any suggestions?

Mike

I had the same problem with mine at first.
What fixed mine was connecting a separate ground wire from the PC case to the metal of the xbox 360 motherboard tray. I just stripped the ends off of some 18 GA wire and tighted it under an outside case screw of the PC and under one of the 360 motherboard tray screws (on the bottom of the metal tray) - after I did that and rebooted, dumping worked everytime - I think it also helped the quality of my dumps because I got six that matched right off the bat. Flashing with the ground wire connected worked flawlessly as well.

Other suggestions -
others have suggested changing your LPT port in the PC's bios to SPP or ECP or EPP - basically try something besides what it is set on now

maybe try to reinstall portio.exe from the nandpro folder and reboot

Hope this helps

Forgot to answer your first question - Yes - you can do the dump over LPT without the JTAG wires connected - once you know your box is JTAGable - you can proceed with wiring up the JTAG wires - be careful with that tiny solder point near the edge of the board - really easy to lift that pad off. I fried mine and had to use an alternate point under the board.

Nice one, ill try adding the ground. I have jtagged quite a few boxes with this PC, so i don't think ill need to play around with the printer port settings.

Regarding PortIO, I didnt realise this was used for NANDpro, its defo installed though as I flashed a Samsung drive last night. Sure your not referring to Port95?

Your defo right about DB1F! & its alternatives, I've messed these up before and been unable to JTAG. I have a little trick I do now with a signed piece of copper strand and some solder :D

Yes, I believe you are right that its Port95 that you want installed and not necessarily Portio (which is for flashing DVD drive). Whichever one is included in nandpro directory is the one I meant.

Hope that using the separate ground wire helps you out (can't hurt anything to try)

OK, still no luck. I have resoldered all my wires with different wires, diode & resitors. I have even used a different LPT socket and still getting the "Flash Controller Not Detected" error.

Im now thinking maybe its the PC, I have done about 10 other JTAG's with no problems so Ill set myself up another PC and try that, if that fails Ill get on to a Xenon I have knocking around.

Any more ideas anyone?
