Hey guys, first time posting here. Well here goes, I purchased an xbox 360 to play COD MW2 online with friends and family. It worked a dream for a couple of weeks or so, but then it began crashing whenever I was online. The entire screen would just freeze and I would have to turn my xbox off and then back on for it to be okay. I done a few tests such as seeing if it was my xbox by playing games when I was offline and they all work fine. The problem, it seems, is the router. I'm currently using the default one provided to me by virgin ( I was told it was xbox compatible by the person who sold me virgin.) The model is "NETGEAR WGR614 v9"
*EDIT* Another thing I forgot to mention was;
this error message came up after crashing sometimes
ERROR: Error getting persistent data; see console.
I was told to open ports etc but if I'm honest I don't really know how to do it. I tried to do it but the problem remains.
Any help at all would be brilliant.
Thanks
CJM91

I have used the same router with no issues, assuming its the one they give free on their 20/50MB services.

I have used PortForward but I encountered some difficulty... What I.P am I putting in? I have no idea. Laptop IP? Xbox IP? Router IP?
It's strange. As we speak I'm on xbox live dashboard without a problem, got my headset on speaking to friends. It's just when I begin to game.

Why thank you.
@cjm91
When asked for the IP to forward to, use your XBOX IP address.

@cjm91
When asked for the IP to forward to, use your XBOX IP address.
Do not skip this step!
Please enter the static ip you want to forward to:
What the hell? it says i must create a static IP?, shall I create my own IP for the xbox? This all seems uneccessary considering my friends all work straight away.. why me :/
Sorry to be a pain guys

Can i ask you your setup?
Are you using a laptop as a wireless adapter for the 360 or are you plugging straight into the netgear router?
If you are doing either of the above did you auto set the 360 to use default ip and dns settings?
Dont even think about how i do this 1 handed... just know i do and i can kick your ass at CoD, Gears, SF, VF .. get the picture *wink*

I'm using a wired connection from my router into the xbox 360 and wireless on the router for my Laptop. It's set to automatically find IP and DNS settings.
Appreciate the help guys

ok can you try this:
If your router is run through a PC
* Click the Start button, select Run
* Type CMD and press Enter.
* A Command prompt window will open. Type ipconfig and press Enter.
* Several lines of information will be displayed. The IP address looks like "148.71.61.236" - yours will probably have different numbers near the end. The Subnet Mask will have "255.255.255.0" usually :) and the Default Gateway will look like the IP address, with a number changed at the end usually.
If your broadband line goes straight into a router then you should find the above info on the router somewhere.
Now manually enter these into the 360 and see what happens.
