My son has been playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 a lot for the past couple of months until his game finally quit working just over a month ago. I inspected the disk and didn't notice any bad scratches on it but just to be sure, I took it to the local Video store and had the disk polished for him. After that, it worked fine...for about a month. I took it back to the Video store and had it polished again but this time it made no difference. His Xbox 360 wouldn't recognize it. I had him bring the disk over to his friend's house and his friend's Xbox 360 (less than a month old) wouldn't recognize the disk either. Problem solved: it's the game. Since the disk wasn't damaged (and I didn't have to give him the parental "responsibility" speech) I bought him a new one today.
We got home from the store and put this brand new game in and it didn't recognize this one either. I then had him try 5 or 6 of his older games (including all of the previous Call of Duty games) on the Xbox and they all played fine. He played for a couple of hours without a problem. Once we tried to put the brand new Modern Warfare 2 back in however, it wouldn't recognize that particular game.
I am stumped. Can anybody give me some direction on this problem?
I have some new information to add. Last night I stopped at the video store and rented a cleaner disk. Ran in on the Xbox and had my son play the game again. This time the game started up and he was actually able to participate in one online battle using the old disk (not the brand new one I just bought). Halfway through his second online battle the game quit, saying it was unable to read the disk. I had him try it again with the brand new disk and the game did start again. After a couple of minutes, however, it was unable to read the disk.
Does this help? Is there a problem with the laser? I am still stumped by why all his other games play.
Well the way I do it is from the dashboard. Go to the game but don't load it. Hit Y for games details and then there will be an option for install to hard disk. Very helpful feature that xbox has helps with load times and doesn't use the laser as much. Once you have installed on your hardrive you will still need the game in the drive for it to work but all it will look for is all the security stuff on the disk.
