dreambox 500sclone except sky card?

I have a brand new 500s clone from dealextreme 500v8 its called, just wondering does it except a white sky card, and for the satalite dish do i need a cable connected from that to my dreambox.

yes and yes ,does your box have an image on it (when you switch it on first you will see the name of the image) you will need to install cccam 2.1.3 and if your card has movies and sports you will need your sky box boxkey other wise the dreambox will only open the basic channels .

when i turn it on a large intersected yellow gp style logo and blue background shows also chinease message box,thats all im getting

i feel this means there is no sowftware loaded am i correct. where could i pick a cable for the image to be downloaded and wheres a good place for getting the image thanks for the sky imormation to man nice

does any1 know where i could pick up these cables in dublin for placeing the images on my box, and then will a motorised dish be my best bet or sky dish

ok gp is gemini image so you have an image ,have you the satellite cable connected up to it. you be getting things like tv type (pal) language (english) clock settings and diseq settings then you should be asked to choose a satellite to scan etc are you getting that or does the screen go blank after a few seconds . if not you will likely have to reflash (did you get it from china )if it needs flashing you will need to get a null modem cable 9 pin male to 9 pin male and you will need to download dreamup (you can get that from clicking on the link in my signature and choosing dreambox ) i would advise you to download nabilosat darkstar11 image for your box its clone safe (and chances are your box is a clone )the wrong image can kill your box but that image is 100% safe.

Hi so i heard gp is bad for clones and that a motorised dish wont work with the box i have something about its not powerful enough to move the dish. Anytruth in that?

some gemini images will kill your box , i use only nabilosat darkstar 11 .img on my dm500s boxes and nabilosat darkstar11 dm7020 .nfi image on my dm7020 . they are 100% clone safe and a very good image to boot . if your getting a motorised dish fitted it should have its own positioner to power the dish motor. so you should be ok.

Gemini did put a bomb in some earlier versions of theri images that killed clones. They got a lot of bad press over it so in recent times there has been no evidence that they continue this behaviour. There is no reason, THAT I KNOW OF, that the dreambox cannot support motorized dishes once the motor meets the spec laid down in the dreambox manual

did a bit of research and found the answer. Have a look at http://www.commsoft.ie/shop/dovado.php
You plug your USB dongle into this and then connect network cable from router to dreambox. very cool. always wondered if this was possible

Cool fintannl might get one of these price seems fair and all but i am a bit straped this month, hope i can report back soon as i really want all this up and running very quick.I managed to get a satalite today so ill have that up tommorow at least im hoping to seems easy enough probally have to wait awhile before i get my router and i'll report back and let you all know how it goes.

here's a cheaper alternative as i noticed is listed in the starview thread.

As I see it the issue is if the router in fact will support the USB dongle. So you may find that when you get the box that the dongle is not supported. You need to check this before you purchase anything I know that the comsoft site lists all the dongles supported. I couldn't find the same information available for the edimax

satfinder is a good idea. never did purchase one. just positioned my dish in the direction that all the others in the neighborhood pointed. took a bit of messing with but not a major problem to do. however if you have no idea how to point the dish then maybe this is good for you

would appreicate a bit of help here,dreambox 500s,have nabilo darkstar 11 downloaded,have installed Cccam 2.1.3,i got my boxkey from boxkey generator.now were do i check to make sure my cccam installed correctly and also do i imput the boxkeys manauly and if so were.cheers

you can if you like enter the boxkey and clines etc into the cccam.cfg file that is currently in the box or you can create a new cccam.cfg (its easy to do )first thing is do you have the boxkey (if not download and install nds boxkey generator) you enter the sly box seriel number in to it and it gives you your boxkey .the boxkey then goes into cccam .you will need to download and install dream control center (this is how you edit cccam )and download cccam congig creator (this will easily make you a new cccam.cfg file) you will need a crossover cable also.
