My system has the cygnos chip installed. I'm able to run games from an external hard drive while xexmenu is installed on a memory card or CD. However, if i install xexmenu to the xbox 360 hard drive and attempt to load a game, i get the E71 error. Whats odd, everything works fine until i reboot the xbox, xexmenu loads, but when i attempt to load a game i get the E71 error. I've removed the "systemupdate" folders and reformatted the hdd. Another issue, when i use HDD1:/Partition3/Content/0000000000000000/, i can't get the xbox to recognize xexmenu. if i just use HDD1:/Content/0000000000000000/ and leave out partition3 it will recognize it. Again, every thing works fine from memory card, but it won't work from xbox hdd. I've read and read and i can't seem to find answers to this problem.

ok, i've narrowed the problem down to "profiles". When i start the xbox in the cygnos nand mode, it automatically loads the first profile and all works well, however, if i change profiles and attempt to load a game i get the E71 error. Does it only accept one profile?

Fixed! My nand became corrupted. Luckily i backup my nand when i got my xbox back from the installer. Re-flashed and the trouble went away.

hey man, just out of curiosity, did you have this problem after updating? mine was working a day or so ago, then i updated so i could play final fantasy because i was reading around and it said it was safe. now it doesn't work. getting the same error as you. whenever going from a homebrew, xexloader, to the dashboard or right when i'm trying to start a game. any help would be appreciated

Its not safe to update a jtagged xbox with the latest updates, certain ones seem to be OK, but certainly not dash updates. AFAIK, you have just downgraded yourself to normal xbox 360 with no return

bollocks. are you sure about that? because i was reading online that if you had xbr 3 8955 and you updated via usb drive, that it would recognize that you were already on 8955 and it would just update the avatar and the game playability. according to someone on another forum,Quote: "I can confirm it is safe to update with the Sept 09 dash update. I was kind of scared but I took the plunge and JTAG still working. This update allows you to do the avatar editing, so the avatar isn't black anymore. Update can be d/l'd from M$ site, it isn't patched as of when I used it but I would still be cautious. I'd upload it but it's like almost 90MB. You put the $SystemUpdate folder on root of USB flash drive and power the 360 with that in there. They also have an ISO version."
i went with this and updated and it was working for about a day. but now i'm getting the error. was getting a e79 error occasionally before doing the update too.

I had the resistor removed to keep the update from happening. if you didn't, then you might be screwed. I would reformat the harddrive or memory stick and start over. I'm finding out that certain things on the memory or hdd will cause E71 error on bootup. If you have any xbox live profile on the memory stick or hdd that will cause some problems. You shouldn't have to update to play newer games, just remove the system update folder from the game.
