Welcome to AD Alice.
If your really heart set on wired connection and dont want to be trailing wires everywhere, the dlan powerline adaptors are pretty good, i use them myself and easy to set up.
They use your homes existing power sockets to carry the signal around your home.

AFAIK, you need a crossover Ethernet cable (Not the normal patch cable) and TV versity should just pick it up. Make sure you stop and start your media sharing one your have connected it up.

Yes, any crossover CAT5e/6 will do the job, you may have to bridge the connection.

hi you should just be able to connect it up and away you go as the crossover cable is for data and not the internet. you can share the wireless internet connection if you wish by selecting the wirless network, properties, sharing tab,
