I'm sorry for asking these questions, but I've searched the forum and Google.
1) What is wave? For example, wave 4 and wave 5. <- I want to get my xbox 360 flashed ($30-40), and I am not planning on playing online. Does this mean I have to update the firmware regularly ($20 update cost) to be able to play new releases when they come out?
2) I heard that the new versions of iXtreme recognize many new internal SATA cards. Is that true and how do I know which ones it recognizes?
3) I own the HP Pavilion dv6917cl Entertainment Notebook PC (specs: http://tinyurl.com/dv6917clspecs). Is it possible for me to flash the xbox 360 myself with this laptop? I read a thread on flashing the xbox 360 with a laptop on this forum, but, although I am good with computers, I am ignorant at times. So, I don't know if it is possible for me to flash the console with this laptop.
4) I read a post somewhere that you do not have to burn a game to play it on the xbox 360. Instead, you can get xport360 and download modio to "hack it." Is that true?
I hope you guys will answer these questions. Once again, I am sorry for asking four questions, but I really want to learn more about this. I appreciate the time you spend looking (and hopefully answering) my questions.

A Wave is simply a partition on the disk where an update is stored, previous versions of iExtreme firmware would not boot a wave it did not recognise as it was assumed as unsafe. M$ has recently started to introduce more Waves, so non wave complient firware was released. Both 1.61 & LT will boot any wave, so you will be fine there.

Best thing to do is to try it and see, if its doesnt work then buy the Via 6421a SATA card.

AFAIK, you will need a PCMCIA Via 6421a SATA card for the laptop and some way to power the drive (as your not going on live, use the xbox))

No, you need a JTAGGed xbox for this. You will need to burn the games to a disk as per the Ultimate Sticky.
