i have a yamaha rx-v465,and a ps3.have hdmi rigged from ps3 to receiver.now here's the problem,i can play movies and get dts hd master with no problem. when i play a game with dts or dolby digital it comes out as pcm,it should go right to the higher quality sound field.

PCM is lossless, but it might not be 5.1, so it would not be as good as DTS 5.1 or Dolby 5.1 if that is the case.

If it is not outputting in 5.1, I would go to the audio setup page in the PS3 XMB. After choosing the output device, you can choose the formats it supports. Make sure it is set to DTS and Dolby, and turn off the linear PCM. Oh, and if your speaker system is only stereo, then leave it as it is...linear PCM is the best quality stereo you can get from a PS3.

thank you, sony and yamaha couldn't help me.i can't believe it was that simple. the only thing is what if i want to watch an old dvd with pcm and no other format.
