Ok, I am extremely out of date with my 360. All I know is that it's using xtreme (not ixtreme) firmware and recently some games like Dante's inferno, Sonic And Sega All Stars Racing will prompt for an update. So I proceed with it. After that, the console reboots and I get the prompt again. No matter how many times it's back to square one after updating and the game(s) refuse to launch.

But I did try other games. Japanese ones don't seem to have this problem. Like end of eternity. My dashboard is already the latest 8955 fall update so I am clueless as to why this is happening.. :(

No error message. It will just seem like the update was successful and the set will reboot. Then it will prompt for update again. An endless cycle.

Anyway, whether it's an unpatched wave 4 game or patched to wave 3 game it still yields the same results..

Looks like the update didnt install correctly.

You will need to find out which game originally tried to update the console and then do it again with that disc.

I dont have experience with this, but I have read the above in the past.

Damn.. whenever a game prompts for an update I will usually let it do so. I don't see why this is the reason.. thanks anyway

I had the same problem recently. I have two 360s. One flashed with LT that I play on live with and another flashed with 1.51 that I use to play early releases and offline games. The fall update is all you need up to wave 4 but there have been minor updates since then ie wave 5 and 6. You can either connect to live via gold or silver to update or put a retail copy of a wave 6 game.(abgx has a verified list with wave listings on the site) Once you do that your game should play without any update prompts. I did the latter cause my xbox is not banned and wanted it to stay that way. I just used a gamefly free trial to get the game(Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing with Banjo-Kazooie) updated then sent it back and cancelled. Hope this works for you.

I did use a copy of Sonic And Sega All Stars Racing. It prompted to updated and rebooted. And the cycle never ends..

Are you using a retail copy or a backup though?

You need to use a retail copy.

This happens to me all the time because I change the wave of my games. When you change the wave you remove the update. Just go on to the game updates website that one of the guys on here set up (The name escapes me at the moment) and get the update from there. Stick that on your hard drive and you will be good to go.

You can get the update from here and either put it in a disc or a usb device to install it to your xbox360!

Thanks for your "great" idea as I already mentioned in my first post that the latest 8955 dash was already applied..

Yeah thats only gonna work for the annual major update(wave 4).

Between the major updates(Waves 5 and 6 so far) using a retail copy of

a waveX game is the safest way to update. Very simple.

Isnt it easier to just update your console through xbox live if it isnt banned!

Yes unless you haven't been on in awhile and are worried about getting

banned once you connect.
