Drivekey crashes Wii only on new backup discs

I got 3 Drivekeys to mod mine and two friends Wiis, I did mine, it plays everything except NSMB which is fine, the first one of my friends Wiis still plays all originals and will play backups of games which have been out a while. I am thinking of updating the firmware but dont know enough about what can go wrong and which firmware version to use. I have trawled previous threads but there is a lot of stuff that goes over my head. Can anyone please help with this.

Sorry, I forgot to include that with any backup of a recently released game, the game is recognised in the Menu screen but if I click to start the game, the screen goes blank and the Wii crashes and needs to be powered off before I can use it again.
