CK3 + Probe - Liteon drive - NO SERIAL DB-9 output on my PC

I have one PC with DB-9 rs232 output on the motherboard but no SATA slots.

The other PC has SATA but no RS232 - 9pin Male on there.

I have the brand new CK3 and probe and I can't afford to keep shelling out for parts on this. The 360 drive i'm flashing is a Liteon 74850C DG-16D2S.

What can I do to connect this all up. All i want to do is flash the drive, but I can't. Is there a way yet? All the posts I find on this matter seem very old.

Please help

I forgot to say. The motherboard for my main pc is Conroe1333 if this helps anybody to help me

You don't need DB-9 for LiteOns any more. You should be doing full firmware dumps.

thanks for the quick reply. So I wasted my money buying the CK3 and probe have I?

I will have a good read of this tutorial you sent me and hope I can play some of my backups later. Thanks

Personally, I don't think you have wasted money. Having a connectivity is nice so you don't have to use the 360 to power the drive. They should be coming out withe Probe2 soon (does the same thing as the Vampire). Or you could build your own homemade probe.

I have a CK3 Probe. I read that tutorial and it is way to advanced for me. The circuit board on my drive doesnt match the pictures at all and neither do the instructions for releasing buttons on the probe etc.

My probe and connectivity kit have the following buttons:

On Off
Eject
Mode

The drive I have is noted in my first post it is a 7xxxx cant remember exact at mo

Yeah, you probably have the probe1. The probe2 should be released here shortly.

You can dump the drive specific data off of the 74850C LiteOn but you won't be getting the full firmware. It is recommended to do full firmware dumps if you are going to be playing on Live.

I can live without going on Live. I dont pay for an account of anything. I really want to flash it using the tools I have so I can play the backups. I am a real novice as you can well tell but I can normally learn things quite quick.

Can you point me towards an up-to-date tutorial on my exact drive with the probe1. I saw 1 with the R707 hole and it looked pretty simple.
