Hey everyone, I'm a noob here so go easy on me!

I have a 60gb PS3 and everything works perfectly...except blu rays. I have tried DVDs, CDs, PS1/PS2 games everything works perfect and ironically blu rays do as well yet only for a set time.

Examples I can give are as follows from the random incidents I have seen.

Blu ray film/PS3 game will play flawlessly for over one hour, then problems happen.

Blu ray film/PS3 game will crash after around half an hour without access to XMB.

Blu ray film/PS3 game will crash after around half an hour with access to XMB.

Blu ray/film will get "stuck" during a loading screen with looping music (eg in Unchartered) yet if I take the disk out and re-insert it, it will load the game and I can play for a while.

And before and after this I can play PS1/PS2 games and PS3 game demo's before and after these errors occur.

Another thing that might make it easier for someone to diagnose what is wrong is the fans...they go crazy when I'm using a blu-ray disk after a certain time and when this happens and I am able to back to the main PS3 XMB screen after quitting a game/film, the disc icon no longer turns up and my PS3 I feel is overheating, hence the fans going near full on.

Again though after all of this I am able to play any type of media without problems as long as it is not a blu ray disk.

If anyone knows what's up, I'd be greatful for a solution/explanation.

Thanks to anyone that replies, peace.

I would do a quick cooling makeover; put good memory and chipset coolers in, replace the thermal grease, and wire the fan to run at 100% all the time. Also check that the top of the RSX chip is not loose.

Thanks for the replies guys, hmmm...I still have warranty on it? Should I just give it to Sony? I'm just worried about the condition it might come back in as mine is currently mint, I'd hate it for it to be all scratched up n shit. Thanks.

Yes, if it is under warranty take full advantage. But, you stated you have a 60 gig with backward compatibility, are you sure it's still under warranty?

What good is having your system look mint if it doesn't work properly? If for whatever reason you get it back in worse condition than you sent it, go ahead and call them on it. You might want to voice your concern with a Sony rep before you send it in.

Good luck.

Cheers bro, yeah I have just kept adding a warranty to my old warranty to the store I bought it from. I have about 18 months left. It's cost quite a bit but it's valid so I guess it was worth it.

Yeah I get what you're saying with the condition thing, plus I've heard if you by any chance get it back and you're not satisfied and/or the give you a refurbished console as a replacement you can refuse it until they give you one you are satisfied with...although I've heard this takes a while.

Wow...a 60GB under waranty...you must have spent about $1000 all together!

Since it is a store waranty, you will not be dealing with sony, but the store (or possibly a waranty company that the store was selling policies for). This might be a big pain in the *** for you, as they will probably try to exchange it for a unit that is not backwards compatable. Also, anything you get from them will not be in mint condition; there may be a anti-tamper sticker, but it will not be a sony anti-tamper sticker.

Still, you should be able to get a replacement 60GB if you are willing to deal with a lot of crap.
