Please Note for those people living in the Irish Republic (ONLY).
When buying any New TVs here , make sure these Television have Mpeg 4 Tuner in them as most sets sold here have Freeview Tuners on older sets up to 3 years olds, and shops are trying to sell them off cheap,They will not work here for the liked of RTE-ONE/RTE-TWO/TV3/TG4/as they are now on Mpeg4 only. Freeview are only for the UK.Market only.
(DTT)is comming to Ireland very soon & is currently undergoing a Transition from Analogue to Digital on Test here .SO Check that the TV is Irish Digital Mpeg4 Ready.
Led/TVs Backlights are the way to go for now Better picture on them over the just Lcd sets. Note look up my other threads i done a week or so on NEW STUFF on the market & and a thread on the new Cell TVs. Maybe the way to go.& if u like new 3D Techology TVs then Samsung have a few new sets on the market to look at.40inc Led selling under ?2,000 here.
ok that all for now.

ok SG8 what have u got working on the box ? have u got cable channels n~l
or u using Lan/ethernet or sat channels working.
Sat channels will work on Starview 5 & Starview 6 ,But no Irish upc cable due to Nagravision 3 ,But some mmds channels where working here but soon to be gone over to Nagra 3.
Yes, cable channels NTL/UPC.

Satelite will NOT work on Starview 6, it is a cable box for the Irish situation!

Maybe you should read a few threads about them before claiming that they are not working ??

Edit: Maybe you can just edit your post (again) to correct your misinformation ??

I Don't think u will have Cable working due to Nagra3 on N~L
MMDS was working here ,but i think they are switching over to Nagra 3 if not gone already. Starview boxes that have a Sat/receiver in them u can use with a sat/dish. or use it on Lan u can use as well.ok SEG8
Thanks for editing your post, but again you are only misinforming people (if they can even make out what you are trying to say).
You obviously don't know how the Starview6 works so I think you ought to just stop talking about it.

Plug and go ? like other Starview boxes ?? All STARVIEW Boxes needed software for them before they would work, you may have bought one from someone who had already put the software on it but if it worked it was not using the original software supplied with the box.

If you keep editing the errors out of your posts you will soon end up with nothing in them at all !!

If you are going to post stuff at least check that it is correct before posting it and if you dont know what you are talking about, don't post at all as it is only confusing people.

Thanks SG8 on that, to late for me now as i got a upc box from them & have to hold it for a year under contract. I taught all boxes were down here in Ireland & nagra3 was not hacked at all,so these boxes have got around the problem, good to know. so these boxes have been working since they came out on the market here. I am going off line now till later, bye SG8

sg8 no offence mate but maybe you were a bit harsh i see your point 100% and you are correct, and i fully understand . but canon who is very knowledgable in his field may have made an error on a topic he is not fully aware of, but he still commands respect for what he knows. and he posts all that he learns on here (which helps a lot of people ) maybe instead of being so critical and focused on an error (and i accept you are 100% correct) you might say well done for the work he has put in on his posts instead of putting him down or even maybe making him go to another forum . and of course i must say that sg8 is an excellent ambbassador for the afterdawn forum and has great knowledge as has canon/e45/mickah/fintann /fergus/celtic /and scouser etc. and long may this forum continue with such great support ,i thank you guys .

Yeah agree fully. Canon brings a great deal of knowledge on Tv's to this forum so shouldn't be repeatedly critisized for one error.
Can't leave yourself out of that list of top members piopat. I love you as do we all. But me especially. Alright that's enough bromance for the year.

In my first reply to Canon on this thread, I simply asked 'what about the starview 6 ? '

It was the snotty replies after that from Canonfan, ( since edited or deleted, but one quoted ) that showed that he was posting about something he knew little about.

I appreciate that every member here is an asset to the site, but I also think that people who post incorrect information are only causing confusion.

It also appears to me that some people (not Canon) seem to be almost deliberately misleading people.

He was not 'repeatedly' criticized for one error, I asked 'what about the Starview 6 ? ' and was replied to in quite snotty terms with more errors and misinformation.

He could have quite easily read a few of the threads about the starview 6, before replying to my question but he obviously decided not to and continue with his misinformation/error.

I will be editing all my posts on this thread, so the repeated criticism will be removed.

to be impartial on this, you shouldnt edit your posts unless the person who made the initial post, acknowlege's their mistake as it makes the person, in this case SG8, looks like they are just having a pop for no reason, which isnt the case, if I post something and it may be correct to my best knowledge and if some one corrects me on it, great, no worries, I just learned something new today, I will change my post with a disclaimer in it to point out where I was corrected and by who, you dont just edit each time as this just looks like your covering your error. Just my ten cents on it

Don't you dare edit or apologise for any posts SG8.
What if some novice in EIRE buys a STVU 5 today, because Canon says it works here.
Stavu 5 hasn't worked on cable since SEPT/OCT 2009, & never worked on sat.
I have often read Canon's posts here & found them very informative indeed
Now I wonder if he posts such crap about cable boxes, how accurate are his previous
posts.
Pio.,you were very naieve when you came on here first, but you have come on in leaps
& bounds since. Your working knowledge of linux has prospered because you asked people
like Fint for tips & were sharp enough to take to linux like a duck to water. You don't
need to plaumass Canon or anyone else on here. You have helped a lot of people here.
So let Canon stand up for himself, & if he's anyway humble Mickah won't be too harsh on
him.

On the money Eamo, if ya make a mistake on something, put yer hand up or take someones correction as constructive and take it on the chin, there is no shame in that, thats how we all have learned along the way and passed the same knowledge on, isnt that how things work in general,

But dont change yer opening post each time someone calls you on it, as it makes you look worse and on first reading, makes the other person look like your attacking them for no real reason. as someone coming to the thread wouldnt know what was edited.
