I recently ran into this Problem, AGAIN, this is my 2nd Xbox 360. My other one was modded, and the other one I never could fix. (Ring of Death) So recently after leaving the 360 in a cabinet, (aparently a big no no) The red contrast would flash in a pulse fashion in intervals of three. Very Annoying, in movies, dashboard screen and games. So I decided to hook up Standard AV cables to see if the red pulsing intervals would continue. Low and behold... it didnt continue!!! Standard av cables look like crap BTW. So then I re connected my Component cables and BLAMMO, No red contrast intervals. I dont know how or why. But that is the solution, Connect standard av turn on, turn off, connect component cables, turn on... Should fix!
Sounds like your lead was either not connected correctly, your lead was faults or you are gradually getting a GPU issue. Fingers crossed its the first one.

You should be OK as long as the floor isnt a carpet
