ok here is the short version, i am living in ireland and last christmas my eight year old got an xbox 360 elite off santa(sob wouldn't give me one lol).he is always getting games for it but is not careful with the discs so eventually they stop working(scratched).i want to be able to backup the original game discs onto a blank dvd/cd so that i will always have a copy for when he stays with me(stops hissy fit lol),also this will make me look good lol.some of the discs he gets second hand in gamestop and they might only work a couple of times so i need to back them up straight away.it is not illegal as far as i know since he does own the original discs and i just want to make a backup copy for safety(and peace of mind lol).i have a lenovo g550 laptop running windows 7 and from what i can find the optical drive will read and burn dual layer.what do i need to back up these game discs and why do the blanks have to be dual layer? do i need to modify his xbox 360? i would rather not have to do this.all help appreciated.btw it is a philips drive in the xbox 360.

You will have to modify the xbox to allow it to play copied games (alter the DVD drive firmware), as the firmware (DVD drive software) is M$'s property the it is illegal. You have the right to use it not to modify it.

The only safe way to back up a game at the moment is with a xbox DVD drive flash with 0800 firmware. You will need a SATA port to connect the drive to, so if you lappy doesnt have aSATA connector then you are SOL.
