ps3 broken now what?

ok so i have changed my ps3 laser 3 times now and this time my whole blue ray unit is fried. i know that once that is broken u cant use another blue ray unit with that ps3 because the chip set on the bluray is married with the ps3. So the question is should i sell my ps3 or just use it as a media player because i still can access the ps3 main menu with all the demos and things? wait for cfw hack or is their a way i can fix it up?

wait howd you get it to fry by changing the laser??? If the drive seems dead check the connections if they are damaged it wont receive power also check the power supply if it is giving power to the blueray drive. Im not sure but i think you can switch your old drives controller chip to a new replacement drive as long as you use it only on your original Playstation3 ( from which the controller chip came from). If not then you may get $100-$125 for it broken on ebay.
