I tried this before and made a mess of it so here's take two.
Firstly what's the best f/w for banned consoles.
I have flashed ms28 before awhile back but have never successfully replaced a drive.
I have the key from my hitachi.
Thanks for your help.

Since the console is already banned, you could use 1.41 non-stealth. I believe 1.61 will boot any wave as well. Replacing a drive is pretty straight forward. Load the old hitachi key as source, and use either 1.41 non-stealth or 1.61 as target. Spoof source to target, and jungleflasher should report that the drive is spoofed as hitachi. Save, and then write firmware.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will give it a go.

I have failed again. JF 3 Me 1.
First JF couldn't detect the new drive but then I opened the trey and started JF and it did. I put the ms28 in vendor mode then I loaded the Hitachi f/w as source and xtreme 5.3a as target. I spoofed the drives then went to MTK Flash 32 and cliked write. It then came up erasing bank 0... and froze. Now the drive can't be detected and the trey won't even open. I have another ms28 the same. I only keep buying them because my only successful flash was with a ms28. The hitachi drive I am replacing because it's lens isn't great but maybe a clean would sort that. I can get that in modeB but it's not detected under drives just port properties and so won't let me dump the fw.
I just need one of these drives flashed and working. What can I do?

Successfully flashed my old Hitachi which is funny seen as I have bought two Toshiba-Samsung ms28 to replace it. After looking trough google I found a guy with the same problems and a mod told him to connect to the port closest to the front of his Pc (0xDD60) in his VIA chipset. I was connected to port 0xDD70. I have read loads about flashing and never read this before. I think a pre JF tutorial would be helpful to simple minded people like myself. I guess I will just try and clean the lens.
The two ms28 drives won't even open in the xbox and JF can't detect them so are they gone?
Also I flashed the Hitachi with 1.51 but is that the best for a banned console?
